Salary - National (Edinburgh and Leeds) ranging from £67,100 to £91,500 and London £73,700 to £100,000 per annum (Salary offered will be based on skills and experience)

MAP - Sell Side & Infrastructure & Exchanges: The Market Analysis and Policy department's responsibilities include Wholesale Markets and Wholesale Banks analytical teams, the wholesale market data team and the Wholesale Conduct and Fixed Income team.
This role is in the Wholesale Banks Sector Team within the Market Analysis and Policy (MAP) Department. The MAP department plays a central role within the Directorates that supervise wholesale market firms. We identify risks and trends in markets and firms and undertake analysis that supports our supervision and policy work. One of MAP’s objectives is to enhance the FCA’s knowledge of our markets and how emerging trends can impact our firms and our objectives.
What You Will Be Doing
We are looking with candidate with an excellent analytical understanding of wholesale banking business models and the markets in which they operate, including their relationships with other financial services firms and market structures. You should understand the conduct regulations that apply to wholesale banks and how they impact our objectives. A strong knowledge of wholesale banking business activities and products is required as well as practical market experience and the ability to evaluate risks in the sector.
The Key Responsibility Will Include
- Continuous monitoring of wholesale banking and market trends and developments, and using data and market knowledge to provide sophisticated insights and briefings to colleagues
- Reacting to market events with ability to work under pressure, engaging with firms at a senior level and reporting senior stakeholders on developments
- Undertaking analysis firms’ business models and using that review to anticipate where risks may be building in the sector
- Leading multi-firm projects that investigate and diagnose conduct risks in wholesale banks
- Building constructive working relationship with other authorities in the official sector (UK and international) and industry stakeholders to understand and resolve shared challenges
- Representing the team in a professional manner with internal and external stakeholders, providing an effective and constructive liaison point within the department, across the FCA and externally
- Contributing to and overseeing the preparation of internal and external communications to ensure our messages are conveyed clearly and well-understood by our audience
What You Will Get From The Role
- Be at the centre of wholesale markets events and the response from UK authorities to those mitigate the impact of events
- Represent FCA externally to industry leaders including regulated firms, trade bodies, overseas regulators and industry standard setters
- Use your analytical skills to identify key trends in wholesale banking and wholesale financial markets and build strategies that can mitigate the risks to consumers and markets
- Using leadership skills deliver against the department’s objectives, and ultimately deliver against the FCA’s strategy and business plan commitments and core objectives

Minimum
- Detailed first-hand experience of wholesale banking and an in-depth experience of wholesale banking business models
- Excellent experience of how UK wholesale markets operate with in-depth experience of equities, fixed income, rates, derivatives or commodities markets and the services that support them, such as prime broking
- Experience of designing and supervising projects and providing the oversight of colleagues’ contributions and performance
Essential
- Strong reasoning skills, with the ability to quickly get the heart of complex issues, particularly through the use of a range of data
- Excellent ability to understand market developments and complex wholesale markets issues and communicate the key facts and recommended actions to internal stakeholders
- Good understanding of the UK financial regulation and how it applies to wholesale banks and wholesale markets
- Able to gain knowledge and understanding of new subject areas quickly and independently
- Able to build strong relationships and influence colleagues, senior management and external stakeholders
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to draft complex written communications
- Work effectively as part of a team and motivate colleagues by working inclusively
