About The Role
We have an exciting opportunity for a
132kV Jointers Mate to join our expert
Power Transmission & Distribution team at
Balfour Beatty. This role will primarily support high-voltage jointing operations across
South Wales and the South West, working on cable systems up to and including
400kV.
Key Responsibilities
As a Jointers Mate, you will be responsible for assisting jointing teams with the installation and repair of high-voltage cables and accessories. Your role will involve:
- Supporting daily jointing operations across the 132kV network (and above)
- Ensuring all works are carried out to Balfour Beatty P T&D jointing standards and procedures
- Adhering to manufacturer specifications for cables and accessories
- Assisting with the preparation and termination of high-voltage joints
- Maintaining high safety standards aligned with BBPT&D protocols
- Supporting site logistics, equipment handling, and task documentation
What you'll be doing
Key Duties
- High level supporting duties to the lead jointer(s) with the operation, maintenance and installation of cables and accessories up to and incl. 400 kV.
- Maintain the working environment to ensure compliance with health and safety
- Check tooling/ tools are cleaned and stored in a proper manner for future and ready use
- Ensure regular maintenance checks are recorded for possible audits
- Note vehicle stock items which require replacement
- Acting as valued member with one or two teams of jointing technicians.
- Giving support to the jointing technicians on a wide range of cables and accessories up to and incl. 400kV, including straight joints, stop joints, trifurcating joints, transition joints, outdoor sealing end in the XLPe and fluid filled range.
- Maintain a personal record of works carried out for development purposes
- Responsible for the safety and welfare of themselves, the jointing team(s) and of other personnel and members of the public at all times.
- Work within the guidelines of the Company Safety Policy, Quality and Security procedures.
- Set personal examples in all Health, Safety, Quality and Environmental standards.
- Reporting of all hazards, accidents, dangerous occurrences and near miss incidents as per the policy.
- Ensuring all personal protective equipment is clean, serviceable, and worn at all times

Who we're looking for
Skills Required
- Must possess a general level of education incl. Mathematics and English
- Must be able to follow work instructions in a reliable and proper manner
- Manual handling trained
- Emergency First Aid trained
- Possession of full UK driving licence
- Maintain the working environment ,ensuring Health and Safety standards are upheld
- Ensure regular maintenance checks on electrical tooling and associated hydraulic equipment for audit compliance.
- Ability to be flexible if there is a requirement in working away from home and response to out of hours calls due to cable failures
