Band 7 Team Lead Physiotherapist - Acute Medicine Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh

37 Hours / week - Permanent contract

We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic physiotherapist for the position of Band 7 Physiotherapy Team Lead in the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh’s Acute Medical speciality. This is the main acute / emergency admitting hospital for Edinburgh and the Lothians. The post holder will provide clinical leadership to the physiotherapy team, based in our Acute Medical wards (72 beds), and at the “front door” assessment ward (Acute Medical Unit / AMU (67 beds)). The Acute Medical team delivers physiotherapy in-patient service for the wide and varied range of medical, neurological, respiratory, musculoskeletal and complex / frailty presentations in these clinical areas. It operates as a key part of the dynamic and responsive multidisciplinary team.

The physiotherapy team comprises of band 4 to 6 staff, and a band 7 Advanced Physiotherapy Practitioner. This is a friendly and supportive team who take a collaborative approach to their clinical responsibilities and challenges. You will deliver effe

ctive supervision and appraisal to the band 4 to 6 team members, and be responsible for the speciality’s service delivery and development. You will carry a clinical caseload, will be an expert resource for physiotherapy in this clinical speciality, and be expected together with the APP - to take on the most complex and challenging cases.

The hospital’s band 7 team are directly supported and appraised by the site lead physiotherapy team, with overarching support from physiotherapy head of service. There is a collaborative approach to ensure best delivery of the physiotherapy service across the site, and the team lead physiotherapists actively ensure this philosophy is meaningfully maintained.

We run a multi-strand in-service and CPD programme, with all staff participating in this learning as relevant to skills and experience. Team lead staff are expected to lead this, and to take on broader departmental professional roles as opportunities arise. Service development and innovation, through small to large audit and project work is prevalent throughout the site’s physiotherapy teams.

There is a regular weekend and overnight on-call commitment, with this being fully supported through a robust orientation programme.

As from 1 April 2026, the Agenda for Change full-time working week will be reducing from 37 to 36 hours per week. Part time hours will be reduced pro-rata. However, there will be a corresponding increase in the hourly rate so that pay will not be affected.
