Job Overview
AAC WEST, based at the Bristol Centre for Enablement (BCE) in Patchway, is an NHS-funded department that provides assistive technology solutions for individuals who need specialist equipment to communicate effectively. We assess, supply, and support communication aids tailored to each person’s unique needs, aiming to improve independence and overall quality of life. Commissioned to cover the South West region, AAC WEST operates across two sites – Bristol and Plymouth.
We are seeking a well-organised Equipment Manager to oversee all aspects of equipment management within the department. You’ll play a key part in ensuring that individuals across the South West have timely access to the communication tools they need.

You’ll be supported by an equipment assistant, and work closely with our clinical and administrative teams to ensure efficient service delivery
Main duties of the job
The Main Duties Of This Role Relate To
- Purchasing communication devices as prescribed by clinicians
- Managing and maintaining equipment currently on loan across the region
- Conducting regular stock checks and maintaining accurate records
- Supporting logistical processes related to equipment distribution and return
- Overseeing the annual safety checks on loaned equipment

Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities
- Responsible for all AAC WEST equipment being in good working order and compliant with national and Trust guidelines
- Prioritise daily incoming work
- Ensuring cost effective solutions are purchased for clinical use
- Liaise with all service stake holders (eg patients, careers & families, local professionals, suppliers) in relation to equipment management issues as required
- Lead on quarterly stock takes and report to trust
- Take fault calls from patients, their families and regional professionals
- Develop standard operations of work as processes evolve
- Support and appraise team members
- Collection of equipment through out the south west region as necessary
Person specification
Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Degree in operations management, health sciences, IT or similar subject or equivalent experience
- Current UK Driving License
Desirable criteria
- Relevant post graduate short courses in AAC related topics, equipment management, maintenance and assistive technology.
Work expereience
Essential criteria
- Experience of managing equipment in a healthcare setting (or similar)
- Experience of using purchasing systems
Desirable criteria
- Experience of working in AAC or Assistive Technology
Knoweledge Skills Abd Abilities
Essential criteria
- Ability to resolve technical issues/ fault finding with both colleague in the building and remotely to stakeholders
- Ability to coordinate and report quarterly stock takes
- Ability to develop and implement SOP’s and communicate these to wider team
- Excellent interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with team, patients, external MDT members and suppliers
- Highly skilled at using MS applications
Desirable criteria
- Knowledge and ability to use a Quality Management System
