We are a leading UK-wide and international practice, recruiting for a position for our Edinburgh office, with a growing reputation for supporting commercial enterprises and not-for-profit organisations, charities, and trusts. As part of our growth plan, we are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Client Manager to oversee a mixed portfolio of limited companies, partnerships, sole traders, LLP’s, small charities and Trusts.

The opportunity

Responsible for managing a portfolio of small charities, Trusts, limited companies, sole traders and partnerships utilising the ABAS team to provide accountancy and administrative services, including annual accounts preparation, bookkeeping/banking oversight, and independent examinations. In addition, you will arrange and review grant claim verification work.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage a portfolio of commercial enterprises and charity clients.
  • Plan, arrange and review the preparation of annual accounts (charities, trusts, limited companies, sole traders, partnerships - including annual accounts for subsequent audit)
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for clients outsourcing their finance functions.
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships, understanding their business goals and tailoring financial solutions accordingly.
  • Ensure timely and accurate delivery of outsourced finance services – utilising our team of Seniors and Assistants - including reporting, compliance, and decision-making support.
  • Conduct Independent Examinations in line with charity regulations.
  • Attend/Hold Trustees meetings and report to Trustees on small Trust clients, as well as support the preparation and processing of trust documentation, including Gift Aid claims and statutory filings.
  • Administer and prepare claims for grant funding (e.g., Innovate UK, Scottish Enterprise).
  • Administer and assist with bursary applications
  • Liaise directly with clients, offering advice and support as needed.
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships, understanding their goals and tailoring financial solutions accordingly
  • Work with internal teams to ensure high standards of service delivery and client satisfaction.
  • Supervise and mentor junior staff involved in outsourced finance and advisory services.
  • Foster a culture of continuous learning and professional growth within the team.
  • Delegate tasks effectively to ensure the highest level of service delivery to clients.

What are we looking for?

Essential

  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a practice environment in similar role (
  • Solid understanding of accounting and regulatory frameworks.
  • Experience conducting Independent Examinations.
  • Strong bookkeeping skills, including experience with cloud-based software (e.g., Xero)
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple clients and priorities efficiently.
  • Experience of preparation of accounts under FRS102(FRS102 1A), FRS 105

Desirable

  • Experience preparing Innovate UK or Scottish Enterprise grant claims.
  • Working knowledge of trust administration.
  • Prior experience working with charities and trusts
  • Experience in mentoring and training
