You will be part of the NW&C Region which consist of three routes:
- North West Route, covering Manchester, Liverpool, Lancashire and Cumbria.
- Central Route, covering the West Midlands and Chiltern areas.
- West Coast South Route, covering the south of Crewe to London Euston.
There is also a Regional Team which supports Regional Major Programmes & Professional services.

Brief Description
As an Access Planner you will support the development and delivery of the Route Engineering Access Statement and Confirmed Period Possession Plan through effective planning and coordination. You'll manage operator responses to the Rules of the Route and associated publications, while helping to resolve access conflicts through proactive industry engagement and consultation.
About The Role (External)
We’re looking for a motivated and detail-oriented Access Planner to join our Planning Team and play a vital role in coordinating engineering access across the network. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who thrives in a collaborative environment and enjoys solving complex logistical challenges.
As an Access Planner, you’ll support the delivery of all activities related to possession planning and worksite coordination, helping to identify opportunities for integration and efficiency. You’ll work closely with route-wide stakeholders and customers to develop and maintain the Engineering Access Plan, ensuring it meets operational needs and strategic goals.
Your role will also involve supporting the resolution of operator responses to the Rules of the Route, contributing to a smooth and transparent planning process. You’ll attend and, when required, chair possession planning meetings—producing, checking, and validating publications and updates to keep all parties informed and aligned.
In addition, you’ll assist in creating clear and effective documentation to support the operational delivery of the Engineering Access Plan. Your insights will help drive continuous improvement, identifying and implementing quality and efficiency enhancements across planning activities.

In order to be successful in this role, we would like you to have/to be:
- Able to work under pressure.
- Able to prioritise and organise workload to ensure that deadlines are met.
- Able to demonstrate the ability to organise effectively.
- Displays a good attention to detail.
- Displays good communication skills and a customer focussed approach.
- Willing to learn to document all aspects of possession parameters.
- Good understanding of IT and operating of systems.
We would also like but it isn’t crucial to have/to be:
- Knowledge of relevant railway geography and network capability.
- Knowledge of relevant train services and network capacity.
- Knowledge of relevant planning systems.
- Understanding of train service structure and commercial and practical implications of implementing changes to the timetable.

Salary and benefits:
- Salary: £29,919 - £31,751.
