Are you a skilled accountant looking for a new challenge in a dynamic and supportive work environment? West Berkshire Council is seeking a Senior Accountant to join our Finance and Property Service, reporting to the Senior Finance Manager. This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to the financial management of a diverse range of services within the Council.
About The Role
As a Senior Accountant, you will play a key role in providing financial support and advice to service managers, ensuring the effective management of budgets and resources. Your main responsibilities will include:
- Preparing and analysing financial reports, including monthly budget monitoring reports
- Conducting variance analysis and providing insightful commentary on financial performance
- Supporting the year-end closure process, including preparing working papers and liaising with external auditors
- Ensuring accurate and timely processing of financial transactions
- Advising and guiding service managers on financial matters, including budget setting and forecasting
About You
The ideal candidate will possess the following skills and attributes:
- Undertaking AAT Level 3 or above or already a qualified Accounting Technician or equivalent (evidence required), or qualified by experience
- Strong technical accounting skills and knowledge of public sector finance
- Experience in budget management and financial analysis
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to build effective working relationships
- Proactive and self-motivated, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team
