These initiatives aim to revolutionize aircraft manufacturing while supporting ambitious government efforts to anchor wholeaircraft / large workshare in the UK economy.

To support this, the NCCs Aerospace Chief Engineers team is seeking an inspiring and experienced Sector Engineer to provide technical expertise, drive development activities, architect programs of work, and serve as the technical authority for assigned technology and customer programs.

As an Aerostructures Sector Engineer, youll collaborate to define customer needs, scope multi-disciplinary development tasks required to mature engineering challenges and apply novel technology solutions to mature and deliver industrial readiness. Youll ensure high levels of technical excellence and govern cross-capability, collaborative and directed, R&D projectswithin the NCCs £16m+ Aerostructures portfolio.Additionally, youll support local sector strategies and steer internal technology, and capability needs in partnership with the Technology and Capability functions.

Acting as a focal point for technical quality, youll work with PMs, external customers, and stakeholders to deliver novel solutions, the likes of which the industry has not yet seen. Key activities will includesector representation for knowledge-related Core & CapDev programs of work,technology pull-through andcoaching & mentoring of engineers deployed into the programmes of work.

So, what are we looking for?

Composites Manufacturing

  • Significant experience in composites manufacturing, developing processes from deposition to thermo-forming of preforms ready for cure, and everything in between.
  • Expertise in defining conceptual products, producing manufacturing & mechanical testing demonstrators, technology application, DFM and use of manufacturing engineering toolkits are imperative.

Production

  • Production /NPIknowledge of composite structures within industry is essential.
  • Experience withprocess automation and large / full scale development projects.
  • Qualification, certification approval knowledge is desirable, as is cross-sector experience.

Technical

  • Experience ofepoxy & carbon fibre composites and material & process characterisation are essential.
  • Experience within the digital engineering space and a good understanding of Thermoplastics, automation and systems engineering are advantageous.

Leadership

  • Proven experience as a technical authority in at least one specialized field, with a track record of ensuring high technical standards and governance in work packages or projects.
  • Experience working in cross-functional, multi-disciplinary teams.

Communication

  • Excellent ability toc ommunicate clearly and effectively with internal stakeholders, customers, and engineers across all aspects of a project.
