Serious Violence Prevention Officer

Are you passionate about creating safer communities and tackling the root causes of serious violence? Plymouth City Council are looking for a dedicated and proactive Serious Violence Prevention Officer to lead operational casework and support initiatives to reduce harm across Plymouth.

About The Role

As a Serious Violence Prevention Officer, you will play a vital role in identifying, disrupting, and preventing serious violence across the city. This is an operational role that involves leading casework, working closely with multi-agency partners, and using civil tools and powers to reduce harm and protect vulnerable individuals.

You will support and coordinate several key areas of work linked to the prevention of serious violence, including:

Evening and Night-Time Economy (ENTE)

  • Work with neighbourhood police teams to progress casework linked to the prevention of serious violence, including sexual violence, within the ENTE, using civil tools and powers available under the ASB, Crime and Policing Act 2014, targeting individuals exhibiting predatory behaviour.
  • Support the ‘ENTE Predatory Behaviour Disruption Partnership’ to identify and problem solve emerging themes and trends linked to serious violence within the ENTE.
  • Contribute to wider initiatives aimed at improving safety and public confidence in the city’s night-time spaces.

Child Criminal Exploitation

  • Work with partners, including the police, to identify non-familial adults who pose a risk to children.
  • Use civil tools and powers under the ASB, Crime and Policing Act 2014 to prevent exploitation and protect young people from harm.

Modern Slavery

  • Collaborate with local agencies to raise awareness of modern slavery and human trafficking.
  • Support intelligence gathering and respond to emerging trends and threats within the city.

The Ideal Candidate Will

  • Have an interest in community safety and a passion for making a difference
  • Have experience, or understanding of, working in community safety, criminal justice, safeguarding, or a related field.
  • Have knowledge of civil tools and powers available under the ASB, Crime and Policing Act 2014.
  • Have experience managing casework, with the ability to manage sensitive and complex information.
  • Have excellent partnership working and communication skills.
  • Be proactive, trauma-informed, and adopt a victim-centred approach to reducing harm.
  • Be able to work flexibly as you will be required to work from various locations across the city.

The successful candidate will be required to pass level 2 police vetting checks.
