Purpose of Role

As an AI/ML Engineer in our Data & Innovation team, you will design, build, and deploy AI and machine learning solutions that deliver measurable value to both our customers and our employees. Your work will enable smarter, data-driven decisions, unlock advanced predictive and prescriptive capabilities, and drive greater productivity, efficiency, and customer value. This could include developing personalised investment experiences, advanced predictive models, and solutions using a range of model types—from small statistical approaches to large language models (LLMs)—that streamline processes and improve decision-making. You will apply engineering best practice to move rapidly from concept to production, ensuring every solution is ethical, fair, explainable, and compliant. Thriving in a collaborative environment, you will work closely with stakeholders, aligning your projects with Data & Innovation strategy, and relevant departmental strategies across the business, taking ownership of the full solution lifecycle. This is a role for someone who combines technical excellence, innovation, and a leadership mindset to make a tangible impact.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and deploy solutions and models ranging from small statistical and machine learning models to large language models (LLMs), applying them to diverse use cases such as personalised customer experiences, predictive analytics, process automation, and insight generation—using both proprietary and third-party/foundational models
• Create solutions that translate complex data into clear, actionable insights, leveraging data science methods and machine learning techniques to deliver customer and business value
• Own the end-to-end AI solution lifecycle: from ideation and functional design through prototyping, model training, testing, deployment, monitoring, and improvement
• Align all projects with the organisation's Data & Innovation strategy, and relevant departmental strategies to ensure solutions deliver measurable impact across the business
• Build and maintain robust AI/ML pipelines from data ingestion through to production deployment
• Apply AIOps/MLOps/ModelOps best practices: version control, CI/CD, model monitoring, automated testing, and reproducibility
• Stay on top of emerging AI tools, frameworks, and research; contribute to R&D and innovation lab initiatives to explore new opportunities
• Ensure all models meet the highest standards for ethical practice, fairness, explainability, and compliance—critical in a regulated financial environment
• Collaborate effectively with stakeholders across departments to understand needs, ensure solutions align with business strategies, present findings, and refine outputs for maximum value
• Prepare and deliver clear communication and reporting on AI/ML project status, impact, and technical considerations to both technical and non-technical audiences
• Mentor and guide peers, acting as a trusted advisor and contributing to a culture of continuous learning
  
  

Requirements

Essential

• Proven experience designing, developing, and deploying solutions and models ranging from small statistical and machine learning models to large language models (LLMs), applied to varied business and customer contexts—including personalised experiences, predictive analytics, process automation, and insight generation—using both proprietary and third-party/foundational models
• Strong Python skills, with expertise in core data science and AI/ML libraries (pandas, NumPy, scikit-learn, TensorFlow, PyTorch, etc)
• Familiarity with additional programming languages such as Java, JavaScript/TypeScript, or C++ is beneficial, but your core expertise is in the Python ecosystem
• Skilled in core Data Science practices including data preprocessing, feature engineering, model evaluation, data orchestration, and data structures, etc
• Hands-on with AIOps/MLOps/ModelOps tooling (Docker, Kubernetes, MLflow, model monitoring, CI/CD)
• Experience integrating AI/ML solutions into business processes and operational systems
• Ability to work closely with stakeholders, translating business needs into technical solutions
• Strong understanding of ethical AI principles, fairness, and explainability
• Agile mindset—comfortable delivering iteratively and adapting to changing priorities
  
  

Valuable Extras

• Experience in financial services, fintech, or retail investing
• Knowledge of explainable AI/ML techniques, fairness audits, and bias mitigation
• Familiarity with intelligent automation or RPA platforms
• Cloud platform experience (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and managed AI/ML services
• Data platform experience (Snowflake, Dagster)
• Experience collaborating with Data Analytics and Data Scientists to translate exploratory analysis and models into production-ready AI/ML solutions
• Experience leveraging and fine-tuning third-party or foundational models (e.g. OpenAI, Anthropic, Hugging Face) alongside in-house proprietary models
