We have an exciting opportunity to join the Lockheed Martin team in Havant, Hampshire as a Certification Technical Lead.

You will work mainly within the engineering team on Airborne Mission Systems, with particular focus on DS-970 certification of airborne platforms.


Currently the role will focus on Merlin and Avenger programmes but this may change in the future.

You will primarily be home based with occasional travel to the Havant offices and our customer sites in Crawley and Yeovil.


This would really suit you if you have a background in Aerospace certification, or other highly regulated industries such as Automotive.


What will I be doing?


You will experience a wide range of engineering activities including:


  • Overseeing and leading the team technically to deliver certification of Type Design Change (TDC) for air systems.
  • Working to the Military Air System Certification Process (MACP), overseeing and leading the generation and delivery of:
  • Application for TDC (DAT Form 30 or equivalent),
  • Certification artefacts Type Certification Basis (TCB), Certification Programme (CP) and Type Certification Expositions (TCE) and iaw RA5820 and the Manual of Military Air System Certification (MMAC).
  • Compliance submissions to Certification Specifications such as Def Stan 00-970 or EASA CS.
  • Non-compliances (NC) assessment against certification specifications and Equivalent Level of Safety (ELoS) arguments to gain acceptance of NC
  • Military Certification Review Items (MCRI).
  • Develop and implementing certification strategies and plans.
  • Mobilising certification teams to delivery against strategies and plans.
  • Managing your time and the teams time effectively to develop effective solutions to cost and quality targets.
  • Working with suppliers and customer authorities to approve and review airworthiness documents and evidence submissions.
  • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with clients and suppliers across all levels of the organisation both internally and with the customer.

What skills will I need?


  • Experience of leading certification within aerospace or a similar highly regulated industry.
  • Has worked in a technical authority role or similar.
  • Extensive Understanding of Test and Qualification procedures and practices, especially with regard to requirement sell off.
  • Extensive understanding and experience of qualification evidence against requirements and regulations.
  • Ability to direct other staff including early careers to achieve technical objectives and solutions.
  • Solid understanding of requirements definition and interface documentation required to support the development and acceptance of solutions.
  • Strong communication skills, and the ability to write in a clear and concise manner
  • The ability to manage tasks and priorities to ensure that assigned workload is delivered when required.
  • Ability to communicate with a wide range of audiences on sometimes complex issues, topics and engineering principles and practices.
  • Minimum 5 years relevant industry experience.


Desired skills, qualifications and experience


  • Experience as a Tech lead or similar position in Airworthiness or Certification.
  • Degree in Engineering or other STEM subjects.
  • Ability to analyse technical problems and provide pragmatic solutions.
  • Proven ability to produce cost effective and technically compliant solutions.
  • Practical experience of Model Based Systems Engineering (SysML, Rhapsody, Enterprise Architect).
  • Understanding of Systems Engineering tools processes and practices. (TOGAF, UML/SysML, DOORS).
