Our Environment, Highway Development and traffic teams are part of the Engineering Section located within Neighbourhood Services and Transport Division, and play a crucial role in managing new developments, highway safety, local infrastructure, flood prevention, and environmental sustainability.

The Engineering Section is responsible for a range of functions on the Vale’s local highway network comprising highway development, construction of new highway works, maintenance of highway structures, traffic & road safety and delivering the Lead Local Flood Authority (LLFA) roles related to flood and coastal risk management.

About The Role
Pay Details: Grade 4 starting at £24,790, including yearly increments.
Hours of Work / Working Pattern: Work 37 hours per week with dedicated time for college attendance.
Main Place of Work: Alps Depot Wenvoe
Temporary Reason: Fixed Term Apprenticeship with potential career pathway progression.

The Apprentice Engineer role will be based in the Environment team. Within the Environment team the role will assist with the delivery of land drainage and flooding investigations, ordinary watercourse consenting, coastal management and SuDS regulatory functions as well as supervise of associated construction works. The role will involve site inspections and survey works.

The Vale of Glamorgan Council is offering an exciting opportunity for an Apprentice Engineer to join our Environment team. This two-year apprenticeship provides a supportive environment where you can learn and grow, making it an ideal opportunity for those starting their engineering career.
As an Apprentice Engineer, you will be supported in completing an HNC in Civil Engineering including an NVQ in Construction Site Supervision, while gaining practical experience.
Upon successful completion of the apprenticeship and HNC, there is the potential to transition into a Grade 5 Trainee Engineer role, working towards a higher-level qualification. This progression will depend on performance and the requirements of the role at that time, ensuring we find the right fit with the appropriate skills and behaviours.
