What’s The Opportunity
Are you aspiring to start your career in the construction and engineering industry? We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Apprentice MEP Cost Manager to join our team, specialising in building services.
In this role you will be responsible for assisting the cost managers with a wide range of building services cost management duties under the direction of a Team Manager and the wider team. You will have the opportunity to build your expertise and progress into the specialist role, gaining experience across mechanical, electrical, and plumbing services.
Mechanical - Help calculate costs for HVAC systems, ductwork, and mechanical plant installations. Review mechanical drawings, perform quantity take-offs for items like pipework and ventilation ductwork, and assist in preparing tender documents.
Electrical - Support the pricing of systems such as lighting, power distribution, fire alarms, and data cabling. Interpret electrical schematics, measure cable runs and containment, and request quotes from suppliers.
Plumbing - Assist with the costing of water supply, drainage, and sanitaryware. Interpret plumbing layouts, calculate pipe lengths, fixture quantities, and gather pricing from plumbing merchants.
Our projects include large industrial and commercial schemes in interesting sectors including motorsports, government sites, science & research, and healthcare, etc.
What you need to do to be effective in this role
- Complete detailed take-offs of MEP services from layout drawings and schematics.
- Review technical drawings and specifications to understand the scope of the works.
- Request and compare quotations from the marketplace for materials and subcontract packages.
- Support senior cost managers in compiling tender submissions.
- Using industry-standard software to support the estimating process.
- Attend site visits or meetings to gain practical understanding.
- Given support and learning with key development within the role.
Skills and experience you need to have for this role
About You
You will be a motivated and hands-on individual with a strong interest in building services and engineering and aspire to develop your skills across mechanical, electrical, and plumbing disciplines, with the goal of becoming an MEP Cost Manager. You will be fully supported in this role to progress with your career.
Experience And Qualifications (Essential)
- A-levels or a Level 3 qualification (e.g. BTEC or NVQ)
- Problem-solving and initiative in a team environment
- Interest in engineering or construction
- IT and numeracy skills
- Willingness to learn and take direction
Experience And Qualifications (Desirable)
- Clean UK Driving Licence
- Practical or technical experience in relation to mechanical, electrical, or plumbing services.
