We are looking for dynamic, highly motivated individuals with excellent attention to detail to participate in a 2-year training post as a Pre-Registration Trainee Pharmacy Technician (PTPT). As a key part of our pharmacy workforce, our well established and successful training programme will set you on the right track to develop your career in Pharmacy.
Your apprenticeship will follow a competence-based learning programme involving one day a week virtual training with Bradford College. Working under appropriate supervision, you will participate in a range of pharmacy services within Wirral University Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (WUTH).
Salary – Locally approved apprenticeship rate, 75% of Band 4 minimum in year 1 (£20,614 on 2025/26 pay scale) and 95% of Band 4 minimum in year 2. For current NHS staff with Pharmacy experience (internal or external candidates), Band 2 or 3 pay rates will be protected ensuring no reduction in pay.

You Will Rotate Across The Arrowe Park And Clatterbridge Sites Within a Variety Of Areas Including Stores/procurement, Wards, Aseptics, Main And Satellite Dispensaries
- Working under supervision and being assessed by qualified Pharmacy Technicians to provide an accurately dispensed supply of inpatient, outpatient and discharge medication from our fully automated dispensary, which benefits from electronic prescribing, a prescription tracking system and near patient satellite dispensaries at ward level.
- Rotate at ward level under supervision and be trained in the assessment of patients own drugs; carrying out patient drug histories and provision of supplies of inpatient medicines for bedside administration; the dispensing for discharge system; the co-ordination of discharge prescriptions and counselling of patients at discharge; disseminating discharge information to patients, carers and GPs.
- Reaching required competencies in assessing medication at ward level and final accuracy checking in accordance with standards and criteria within the Level 3 BTEC Diploma in the Principles and Practices for Pharmacy Technicians qualification.
- Learning the different technical roles and gaining further understanding of manufacturing in our licensed pharmacy aseptic unit, making chemotherapy, parental nutrition and a range of other items.
- Issuing and stock control of medicines through a rotation within our Central Pharmacy Stores at Clatterbridge Hospital.
