The role

As an Armoury Technician, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. Managing the Small Arms maintenance Bay, Small Arms storage room, weapon components and Fuel and Lubricant (F&L) storage.

Day-to-day, you’ll have the following responsibilities:

  • Issue, receipt, storage and maintenance of weapons held in the Station Armoury. Recording of weapon maintenance/repair on JAMESwhilst also carrying out the Daily check of arms, Informing Line Management in advance to maintain adequate stocks of spares in support of the Small Arms maintenance task.
  • Issue and receipt of weapons both service and private and the recording of such issues and receipts in accordance with the current regulations.
  • The maintenance of service weapons and associated equipment which are consistent with current training and qualifications to depth B, including authorised repairs.
  • Assist in carrying out Free from Explosive (FFE) duties when available. And covering Range Warden during periods of absence when available.
  • Undertake Duty Armourer as detailed by Line manager, assisting with ordinance, Munitions and Explosives (OME) issues, receipts and movements and assist the URSO in the upkeep of the unit Weapon Unloading Facilities (WUFs).
  • Assist in the Collection from ammunition depots and return unserviceable ammunition to depots.


This role is full time and based onsite at RAF Cranwell.

Essential experience of the Armoury Technician:

  • Ability to demonstrate the practical and theoretical standards required gained through previous experience in a similar role.


Qualifications for the Armoury Technician:

  • RAF Q-W-GDSA (Small Arms maintenance) or NVQ in Engineering.
  • UK Driving Licence
  • Colour perception standard of CP2
  • Q Authorised Representative (Explosive)
  • ECDL
  • ADR Vocational Certificate.

The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
