Assistant Accountant

About the Opportunity

I am working on behalf of a dynamic logistics and manufacturing business based in Northampton to recruit a Finance Assistant who can support a broad range of finance activities. This is a great opportunity for someone looking to grow their finance career in a varied role that combines transactional finance, financial analysis, and business partnering.

This role will appeal to candidates who enjoy working in a fast-paced, evolving environment and are keen to develop across multiple areas of finance.

Key Responsibilities

Depending on your experience and interests, responsibilities may include a combination of the following:

Transactional Finance Support

• Processing invoices, reconciliations, and assisting with accounts payable/receivable
• Supporting month-end close tasks and journal postings
• Maintaining accurate records and assisting with ledger reviews

Financial Analysis & Reporting

• Assisting in the preparation of financial reports and dashboards
• Analysing cost variances and supporting budget tracking
• Helping identify trends, opportunities, and risks across the business

Business Partnering

• Working with operational teams to understand financial performance
• Supporting the finance team in delivering insight to non-finance stakeholders
• Contributing to process improvements and operational efficiency projects

What We're Looking For

I am interested in hearing from candidates from a range of backgrounds, whether you’re early in your finance journey or bringing prior experience in specific areas. What’s most important is a willingness to learn, a team-oriented mindset, and a proactive approach to supporting the finance function.

Ideal candidates may have:

• An AAT qualification or be working towards a finance/accounting qualification (ACCA, CIMA, etc.)
• Strong attention to detail and good Excel skills (SQL knowledge desirable)
• Confidence communicating with different departments and stakeholders
• An interest in manufacturing, logistics, or working in a commercial setting
