We are looking for an experienced, innovative, and strategic property leader to join our Resources Directorate as Assistant Director of Corporate Property. This is a high-impact leadership role responsible for shaping and delivering our Land and Property Strategy and overseeing the effective management of our non-residential estate.

As the council’s lead property advisor, you will work closely with the Strategic Director of Resources and the wider Strategic Leadership Team to ensure our property portfolio supports the council’s objectives, delivers excellent value for money, and meets legal, safety, and sustainability requirements.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the council’s corporate landlord function.
  • Drive the development and implementation of the Land and Property Strategy and Asset Management Plans.
  • Provide strategic oversight of property services including Strategic Property, Estate Management, Facilities, Fleet, Events, Compliance, and Emergency Planning.
  • Ensure efficient utilisation and maintenance of the estate to support service delivery and income generation.
  • Foster innovation, sustainability, and commercial acumen in all property transactions.
  • Lead and manage direct and indirect teams of around 200 staff.
  • Develop strong partnerships with internal and external stakeholders including councillors, developers, tenants, and public sector partners.

What You’ll Bring

  • Expert knowledge of property, facilities management, development, and investment—particularly in a local government context.
  • Proven track record in managing complex property portfolios and leading successful teams.
  • Significant experience in delivering projects, strategy, and compliance within large organisations.
  • Strong leadership and people management skills, with a collaborative and inclusive approach.
  • Relevant professional qualification or equivalent experience.
  • Understanding of carbon neutrality strategies and the role of property services in achieving net zero.
  • A collaborative, inclusive, and innovative approach aligned with our connected communities principles and our values.

Why Join Us?

We are committed to being a trustworthy, collaborative, innovative, and accountable organisation. Join us and you’ll help shape a more sustainable and inclusive future for our residents—while building a rewarding career in a supportive and ambitious council.
