Description

If you’re looking for your first step on the accountancy ladder, then what better place to start than a forward thinking, modern local authority.

Having invested well over the long-term, we are one of the most financially resilient councils in the country. This means we have the resources to make things happen and to drive an extensive development programme whose yields will underpin the economy and fund public services.

Joining our accountancy team, you’ll gain a real hands-on understanding of handling budgets, producing estimates and reports and working with spread sheets and you will play a key role in supporting the Business Partners and Finance Analysts within the team.

We are looking for someone who is flexible and prepared to go the extra mile. We need an ambitious person with a “can-do” attitude to work with colleagues as one team.

A good standard of education to GCSE level is essential, along with an aptitude for numeracy and a genuine interest in managing finances.

In return, you can look forward to an excellent range of benefits including our online benefits platform, generous leave entitlement, flexible working, healthcare cash plan and pension scheme. In addition we will support you in gaining an Association of Accounting Technicians qualification.

What benefits do we offer?

At Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council we offer a wide range of employee benefits to recognise your valued contribution:

  • Generous annual leave allowance plus bank holidays
  • Local government pension scheme and Life Assurance
  • Salary sacrifice schemes for bicycles and electric cars
  • Access to discounts at nationwide retailers through our ‘B Rewarded’ perks discount site
  • Funded healthcare cash plan including optical and dental cover
  • Free flu vaccination vouchers
  • Access to a free and confidential employee assistance program
  • Support towards a variety of training, including professional qualifications, apprenticeships and wider technical and soft skill development courses

The council signs up to the Disability Confident scheme (formerly known as the ‘Two Ticks’ scheme). If you have declared a disability on the application form we can guarantee you an interview if you meet the essential criteria for the job.
