Description
You will be part of a tight-knit team, working directly with Partners and Directors, to provide client focused and commercially aware services in an efficient and professional manner.
You will mentor, train and manage junior members of staff at both trainee and post-qualified levels to enable them to develop, progress and reach their potential, with the option of being involved in formal training if desired.
You will be assigned a Partner mentor to help you work on your personal career development with progression opportunities available at all levels, including a route to Senior Manager and then subsequently Director and RI.
You will actively promote and market the firm and its services, to attract new clients and retain and develop relationships with existing clients, with the opportunity to specialise in specific sectors.
Your role will be audit focused while getting exposure to wider general practice work as required, including accounts preparation, tax compliance and ad hoc services.
You’ll have full involvement and be a key person in client relationships.
Key Responsibilities
- Managing a small to medium portfolio (approx. £200 - 500k+ gross recurring fees);
- Ensuring all audit files produced meet ISA requirements and the firm’s quality requirements in all respects;
- Ensuring all deadlines are met;
- Pro-active engagement and communication with the client resulting in high quality client service;
- Day to day leadership of audits, ensuring timely communication with key client contacts, Engagement Partner and supporting team members. Leadership of all aspects of audit assignment including job planning and budgeting, time and project management, delegation to and supervision of the team;
- Planning jobs to ensure work is carried out in the most efficient way possible while considering firm-wide productivity;
- Detailed review of file, debriefing team with a key focus on quality and feedback;
- Motivation and encouragement of team, providing timely constructive feedback.
People Management
- Being a proactive team player, bringing best practice from your own experience into the group and sharing perspectives on how we develop it;
- Overseeing and mentoring qualified staff and trainees, providing assistance when required;
- Assisting in the motivation and supervision of people (especially trainees);
- Assisting people in finding suitable work to keep them fully occupied, also ensuring their development and progress and all team being fully debriefed after audit jobs.
Practice Development
- Promoting the interests of the firm with all employed by the firm, clients, prospective clients and other third parties;
- Identifying account development opportunities with clients and progressing these in liaison with the Partner;
- Internal networking to get to know your team and the wider firm including specialist services.
- Assisting with preparation and presentation of new client pitches.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
- Qualified to ACA/ACCA or internationally recognised chartered accounting qualification;
- Experience leading audit teams;
- Experience managing both people and a portfolio;
- Technically competent including solid experience and understanding of UK GAAP, IFRS, and UK Auditing standards;
- Experience of Caseware Audit, CCH Accounts Production, Xero accounting, Quickbooks and Alphatax, Office 365 would be desirable;
- Commercial awareness and able to apply and communicate technical knowledge in a clear and commercial way;
- Experience in both substantive and controls based audits, group reporting and cross border groups;
- Commitment to client care and service beyond expectation;
- Commitment to audit quality and attention to detail;
- High level of personal motivation and drive, and ability to motivate and encourage others.
