Job Title: Assistant Sports Editor (Australia)
Contract: Full-time
Location: Highstreet Kensington London (office-based, with flexibility depending on operational needs)
Hours – You’ll work closely with the Australian night-shift teams and therefore operate during UK daytime hours. This role will include regular weekend working to support the sporting calendar.
About the Role
Daily Mail Australia is looking for a talented Assistant Sport Editor to work in the department’s senior team and lead night shifts. Suitable candidates will be experienced online reporters – ideally with some management experience - with a track record of working under pressure while coordinating a team during major events. They will be expected to maximise breaking news and spot stories.
The role also involves long-term planning to ensure the best coverage possible around events, providing feedback to team members on their copy and coordinating with the wider Daily Mail Sport team with targets of driving traffic and subscriptions, breaking news, and delivering distinctive, fast-paced sports journalism with a strong understanding of what resonates with Mail readers.
Key to succeeding in this role is an ability to multi-task and work to tight deadlines, while being proactive and chasing down the best stories.
