About The Role
Alternative Job Role: Assistant Youth Engagement Worker
Pay Details: JNC Point 9, £26,954 (pro rata), £13.97ph
Notice: For those not holding a Youth Work qualification.
Hours of Work / Working Pattern: 3 hours per week (evening 5.30-8.30pm), 40 weeks. This includes term time working and some of the summer holidays (from September 2025) but accommodates a flexible working pattern.
Main Place of Work: In youth provisions located across the Vale of Glamorgan but you will be able to share transport, use Council’s pool cars and/or claim travel expenses.
Temporary Reason: This is a temporary employment due to grant funding.
Description: We’re looking for staff with experience supporting young people with low-level Additional Learning Needs (ALN) to join an exciting transitional project called Hwb Club. Hwb Club is a youth work initiative for 11–16-year-olds with ALN. It aims to build resilience, confidence, and practical skills to help young people transition independently into open access youth clubs and support services. The club will reflect the structure of other youth clubs across the Vale, offering both formal and informal learning opportunities. Some of these can be accredited and will be shaped by the voices and interests of the young people involved. We’re particularly keen to hear from those with experience as Learning Support Assistants or Higher-Level Teaching Assistants, as these roles offer valuable transferable skills for youth work.
About You
You will need:
- An awareness of issues affecting young people.
- Ability to create resources or materials that support youth activities.
- Have good verbal communication skills.
- Desirable to have experience of working with children and/or young people.
