Job Overview
A vacancy has arisen within the Audiology Service for Associate Audiologists to assist in the provision of a high quality Audiology service to the population of North Wales served by BCUHB. The post holder will perform duties within the Adult Audiology service as described in the job description. The post will be based at Ysbyty Gwynedd. The roles will be performed in outpatient settings across the area served by BCUHB. There will be responsibility to train and supervise other clinical staff where appropriate.
Main duties of the job
Assistant Audiologists and Students who are close to completing their training would all be encouraged to apply. This is an ideal opportunity to further develop clinical and service development skills in a supportive and progressive environment.
The Associate Healthcare Scientist in Audiology will provide interventions with routine / non complex hearing pathologies / disabilities. This will involve assisting with developing the individual care / management plan with appropriate accountability to the Audiologist. The Associate Audiologist is NOT an independent practitioner and clinical supervision and mentoring will be required during the normal schedule of the working day. The Associate Practitioner will obtain appropriate education, training and skills in hearing testing, fitting of hearing aids, otoscopy and the taking of aural impressions, working to locally and nationally agreed protocols in conjunction with scope of practice and accountability.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Essential criteria
- A foundation degree in Audiology or Certificate of Higher Education in Audiology or equivalent level of qualifications
Desirable criteria
- A level in a science subject or equivalent
Experience
Essential criteria
- Working in a Healthcare Team in a clinical role
Desirable criteria
- Working within Audiology or with patients with hearing impairment
Skills
Essential criteria
- Ability to communicate with hearing impaired people of all ages and their families.
- Computer literate
- Ability to manoeuvre patients in wheelchairs around the Audiology Department
Desirable criteria
- Ability to use fine tools (jeweller’s screwdriver) and to connect cables to programme hearing aids. Ability to manipulate a fine drill.
- Deaf awareness
