Associate Clinical Nurse Specialist in Pain Management (Adults), Band 6
Part-time position: 18.5 hours/week (0.49 WTE)
Cross site: Chelsea London and Isleworth
This is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic and motivated Pain Management Service, working cross site at Chelsea & Westminster and West Middlesex University Hospitals. This is an established service that provides highly specialised services to adult and paediatric patients with acute and chronic pain, within a multidisciplinary setting.
We are looking for a registered adult nurse who has a genuine interest in Pain Management. As an Associate Clinical Nurse Specialist in Pain Management you will be expected to support the development and delivery of the clinical pain service for both inpatients and outpatients.
Previous pain management experience is not essential, but the individual must demonstrate excellent communication skills and be willing to develop further. The individual must be motivated to develop and support progression of the service.

The Associate Clinical Nurse Specialist in Pain Management will be expected to support the development and delivery of the clinical pain service, as well as the rest of the pain management service. They will be expected to provide expert clinical knowledge in the management of pain to individual adult and paediatric patients or patient groups. This will be delivered as a component of the patients’ wider care management, under the supervision of the Clinical Nurse Specialists (CNS) and Consultants in Pain Management.
The applicant should be a registered adult nurse educated to first degree level in a health related subject. The individual should be undertaking or willing to undertake appropriate post registration education and development within the area of specialist practice.
The role of the Associate Clinical Nurse Specialist in Pain Management includes the following supervised activities:
- Managing a caseload of specialist patients both on the inpatient and outpatient environment.
- Receiving referrals.
- Providing assessment, planning, delivery and evaluation of specialist care within defined guidelines and protocols (both Local and National).
- Referring to other disciplines and agencies.
- Involvement in training and education for the multidisciplinary teams. They must also be willing to develop their own knowledge and skills.
- Disseminating up-to-date evidence based practice.
- Ensuring effective communication between all service providers.
