Job Title: Associate Data Modeller
Full-time
Working Hours: Full-time, 35 hours per week
Salary: £36,565
Location: London Docklands (Hybrid).
Our permanent hybrid policy sees us all working at least four days across a fortnight in the office.
The Financial Ombudsman Service has been resolving customer complaints since 2001. Our service is free for consumers to use and over 1 million people contact us every year.
The last few years have seen the Financial Ombudsman Service embark on an organisation-wide transformation journey. With the customer at the heart of everything we do, we have already delivered significant improvements in the service we offer and 2025 will see us continue with our ambitious transformation agenda.
Our IT and Transformation teams and their work are closely aligned. Last year we welcomed our new CTO and this year will see him launch the new IT strategy for the department. With the move to cloud computing in 2023 and the ever-changing technology landscape, it is a very exciting time to be joining the Technology team here at the Financial Ombudsman Service.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supporting the development of conceptual, logical, and physical data models.
- Assisting in the documentation of data definitions, relationships, and flows.
- Collaborating with data engineers and analysts to understand data requirements.
- Containing metadata and data dictionaries to ensure data transparency.
- Validating data models against business requirements and technical constraints.
- Contributing to data quality and integrity checks.
- Participating in data modelling reviews and team discussions.
- Learning and applying data modelling best practices and standards.
- Supporting the integration of data models into other platforms.
- Ensuring compliance with data governance and security policies.
- Communicating with internal stakeholders to gather modelling requirements.
- Building relationships with team members to foster collaboration and knowledge sharing.
- Contributing to a fair and efficient service that reflects the diversity of our customers and staff.
Minimum Criteria:
- Understanding of data modelling concepts (e.g. entity relationship diagrams to third normal form, star schema, etc)
- Basic experience with common data modelling tools such as ER/Studio, ERwin, or DBT.
- Writing simple Python or SQL queries to explore and validate data.
- Familiarity with relational databases and data warehousing principles.
- Collaborating in a team environment using version control tools like Git.
- Holding a degree in computer science, information systems, or a related field; or having equivalent experience in data modelling or related roles.
- Working knowledge of cloud platforms such as Azure is desirable.
- Being proactive in learning and applying new data modelling techniques.
