Consulting brings together multiple teams across Transactions, Risk & Consulting, ABA, and Outsourcing to provide client-centric solutions for RSM’s current and future clients within the middle market. Our Consulting team has a major role to play in driving forward the growth of the firm with over 1,700 people delivering almost £200m revenue.
At the heart of Consulting are the six solutions we offer our clients: business transformation, deal services, finance function support, risk and governance, forensic and investigation services, and restructuring. Our solutions create an enhanced tailored approach to support our clients in achieving their strategic goals and empower our people to make an impact and develop their own unique career path.
RSM’s Corporate Finance (CF) team is regularly ranked in the top three advisers nationally in terms of deal volume, and nominated for awards across the country. Within the broader CF umbrella, RSM’s Mergers & Acquisitions (M&A) team focuses on the mid-market, typically advising on deals ranging in size from £10m-100m. M&A operates as a national service line, with over 100 people in strategic locations across the country.
As part of the Birmingham M&A team you will join us working for clients predominantly across the Central Region. The team is led by Helen Brocklebank and John Bryant and has a great mix of experienced senior people and graduates. This provides a fantastic opportunity for your continued development with appropriate guidance and mentoring from the senior team and support from the graduates and other newly qualified team members.
The job involves you supporting senior staff on M&A mandates and business development activities. Deal teams typically consist of four to five dedicated individuals, with mandates lasting up to a year. As part of the role, you would work closely with CF teams across the country, broadening your profile and gaining exposure to a variety of people and sectors. Specific responsibilities are likely to include, amongst others:
You’ll make an impact by:
- Carrying out research on businesses we are meeting
- Preparing pitch documents and attending some pitches alongside the deal team
- Attending client and buyer meetings and working closely with the deal team to ensure key deliverables are of a high quality and within the desired timetable
- Drafting and reviewing information memoranda (sales documents or IMs)
- Carrying out and reviewing buyer research to ensure the most suitable list of potential purchasers is identified
What we are looking for:
The ideal candidate will be self-starter, a good communicator and have a passion to learn quickly to develop their knowledge and understanding of mid-market advisory. It is not essential or expected for you to have prior experience in M&A or CF. You should be keen to take advantage of the support, training, and development the secondment offers. A genuine interest in business and commerce is needed.
We value diverse experiences and perspectives. Here’s what we’re looking for in our ideal candidate:
- Can analyse financial data from a profit and loss, balance sheet and cashflow to identify key trends and unusual balances.
- Can produce a cashflow from profit and loss and balance sheet information.
- Open to learning how to use software tools such as those required for data analytics.
- Interested in exploring methods of using technology to streamline processes and give better service to clients.
- Ability to travel regularly between the following RSM offices and from time to time to client sites: Birmingham, Nottingham, Leicester, Milton Keynes and sometimes East Anglia. The team is typically office based 4 days a week. Being new to the service line it is important for you to learn quickly by being near the rest of the team to make the most of the opportunity.
- Ability to work to tight deadlines and at the same time changing deadlines and objectives (deals move quickly)
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills is essential
