  • Want to be a mammographer?

Working in the Breast Screening Service you will perform screening Mammography to the eligible population of North Yorkshire. You will be using the specialist equipment and techniques required of the National Breast Screening Programme.

You will need to have the ability to transport yourself and equipment across the locality during a normal working day, as this is required for this role

Applications from candidates interested in fewer than the full number of hours specified, and/or those interested in a job share will be considered.

Please see attached document: additional information, for further information on our department!

Please note that the essential character of the NHS Breast Screening Programme is that it is a mobile single-sex service. Due to the nature of the role, there is a genuine occupational qualification for the post holder to be female as an exception to the Equality Act 2010.

Not got a higher education qualification in Mammography?

We offer a comprehensive training programme and apprenticeship opportunity.

Based in the historic city of York, the North Yorkshire Breast Imaging Unit is housed in a purpose-built building which integrates both Imaging and Outpatient Services and the Multi-Disciplinary Team.

Working in this well-functioning unit is a rewarding experience. We have excellent cross team relationships with Surgery, Pathology, Oncology and Breast Care Nurses.

The unit provides the base site for the North Yorkshire Breast Screening Programme which covers the beautiful North Yorkshire region. It is also the centre for the provision of a comprehensive Symptomatic Breast Service to the population of York, providing one stop and follow up services, as well as some outreach clinics at Scarborough Hospital. We are proud of our excellent links with the symptomatic breast services across the region.

Screening is provided on three mobile mammography units which cover over 2O locations around the county, and two static units situated in York and Scarborough.

We offer a range of benefits to support our staff including:

  • Access to the NHS Pension Scheme, providing generous benefits upon retirement, as well as a lump sum and pension for dependants
  • 27 days holiday rising to 33 days (depending on NHS Trust service)
