Audit Specialist

Location: Hybrid – Westminster (London) & home-based

Hours: Full-time, 35 hours per week

Salary: £70-80,000 + excellent benefits

This is a permanent opportunity for a qualified accountant with deep local audit expertise, who enjoys working at a strategic and technical level, influencing standards, quality and outcomes across the public sector audit landscape.

The Role

As an Audit Specialist, you’ll be part of a small, expert team providing audit subject-matter expertise. Working closely with senior finance leaders, contract managers and external stakeholders, you’ll play a key role in ensuring audit quality, regulatory compliance and robust governance.

Key responsibilities include:

• Acting as a technical lead on audit matters for allocated audit firms
• Providing expert advice on audit law, ethics, independence and professional standards
• Leading audit contract quality monitoring and contributing to procurement quality assessments
• Supporting and overseeing audit fee scales and fee variation submissions
• Advising on audit-related complaints and investigations

About You

You’ll be a technically strong, credible audit professional with:

• Full CCAB (or equivalent) qualification
• Strong, current knowledge of the local government audit regime
• Experience interpreting audit regulations, standards and emerging developments
• Confidence engaging with senior stakeholders and explaining complex issues clearly
• Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
• A collaborative, pragmatic approach and sound professional judgement
