Role Title: Infrastructure Automation Engineer
Role Type: Permanent
Location: Milton Keynes, UK [Hybrid]
Frequency: three days a week
We are looking for experienced professionals (+10 years) to lead the facilitation and implementation of new capabilities for full Infrastructure Automation. This role will be responsible for developing, assisting with, and implementing Infrastructure Automation solutions across the IT estate.
The Automation Engineer will deliver solutions aligned with the Automation roadmap and corporate strategy. The role will focus on enhancing automation capabilities to support cloud migrations and BAU service provisioning, as part of a broader initiative to implement “Infrastructure as Code.”
Key Responsibilities:
- Serve as a subject matter expert and provide consultative support for infrastructure automation.
- Define and maintain standards/guidelines for IT automation, including code quality and documentation.
- Support cross-functional teams in resolving automation challenges as part of a Centre of Excellence.
- Train team members on automation technologies and best practices.
- Understand and apply Identity and Access Management (IAM) risk principles.
- Actively contribute to CAB meetings and manage risks through appropriate procedures and channels.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge and Skills:
Essential:
- Proficiency in Automation & Configuration Management Software (Ansible – Mandatory)
- Strong Python development skills
- Experience with GitLab or similar code repository tools
- Automation experience across Linux, Windows, and VMware environments
- Hands-on experience with at least one cloud platform (vCloud, AWS, Azure)
- Familiarity with container technologies (Docker, Swarm, Kubernetes)
- Excellent communication and documentation skills.
Desirable:
- Experience with Job Scheduling and Runbook Automation (e.g., Rundeck)
- Familiarity with Code Validation and Deployment tools (SonarQube, Jenkins)
- Network troubleshooting skills
- Understanding of Scrum methodologies
