AWS Solutions Architect

Leeds based (Hybrid) with occasional travel to London & Rochester

ASAP - Permanent

We are seeking a hands-on, senior AWS Solutions Architect to work closely with our Architecture and Engineering teams, helping shape the next evolution of our cloud platforms. This role requires an experienced architect who can assess and document the current-state AWS landscape, collaborate with cross-functional teams to define a target-state platform, and guide the organisation toward a mature poly‑cloud (AWS + Azure) model.

You will play a key role in defining platform patterns, workload placement decisions, and best‑practice architectural frameworks, while ensuring strong knowledge transfer to internal teams.

The Role:

As‑Is AWS Documentation: Capture and document the current AWS environment in clear, reusable architectural artefacts.
To‑Be AWS Platform Design: Design the target-state AWS platform aligned with EA strategy, including resilience, security, scalability, and operational considerations.

Technology & Architectural Patterns: Identify emerging technology trends and define future cloud patterns to guide engineering teams.

Workload Placement Decision Framework: Develop a structured decision tree for workload placement across AWS and Azure, mapping to the architectural patterns you create.

Knowledge Transfer & Mentoring: Build internal capability by coaching, sharing best practices, and ensuring that teams can confidently support the target‑state architecture.

What you will bring:

Extensive AWS architecture design experience in complex, enterprise-grade environments
Deep understanding of secure-by-default cloud platform design (IAM, networking, logging, guardrails, compliance)
Demonstrated use of AWS Well‑Architected Framework in real-world deployments
Strong documentation, communication, and knowledge‑sharing skills
Ability to work autonomously in Agile and DevOps‑centric delivery models
Architecture experience integrating heavily with SaaS platforms, ideally one or more of:
Salesforce

Snowflake

Mulesoft

Nice to have:

Experience in regulated or highly governed environments (e.g., financial services)
Experience designing brownfield cloud environments following a merger, acquisition, or major system consolidation
Relevant architecture certifications (e.g., TOGAF, BCS, SA)
Relevant AWS certifications (Solutions Architect Professional, Security Specialty, etc.
Understanding of multi-cloud / poly‑cloud architectures, particularly with Azure
