Description
Are you a passionate and experienced nurse ready to take the next step in your leadership journey? Or perhaps you're already working at Band 7 and want to join a team where you'll feel supported, challenged, and valued? Either way, you could feel right at home in our brilliant and innovative Emergency Department here at Queens Hospital .

As a Senior Sister / Charge Nurse you’ll play a pivotal role in delivering outstanding emergency care to our vibrant North East London community. We’re one of the busiest EDs in the region, seeing around 300 patients every day across Majors, Resus, RAFT, Triage, and SDEC. It’s demanding, unpredictable, and no two shifts are the same

As a Senior Sister / Charge Nurse in our Emergency Department, you will play a crucial leadership role by providing specialist advice, coordinating patient care and acting as a clinical leader and role model for your team.

Fostering effective communication and positive relationships within the multidisciplinary team, you will maintain a safe environment for patients, staff, and visitors by adhering to best practice and risk management guidelines. In addition, you will support the Matron with clinical and operational management, staff development, and clinical governance, actively participating in recruitment, mentoring, and retention of staff.

Through your leadership, you will promote our Trust’s values and cultivate a culture of respect, compassion, and continuous learning.

You’ll also benefit from, University-linked postgraduate study and specialist ED training, Leadership development through the “World Class Manager Licence” programme, In-house training days (e.g. TILS, Resus SIM) and "Keep in Touch" days and a team culture that genuinely feels like family.

You’ll need to have extensive ED experience at Band 6 or above and in return, we’ll support you to continue growing clinically and as a leader.

Our Trust is committed to delivering excellent patient care, supporting staff development, and maintaining a safe, inclusive, and sustainable working environment. You will be part of a team that values respect, open communication, and continuous improvement.

To coordinate patient care within the Emergency Department, to act as a role model and provide specialist advice.

To support the Matron in ensuring that high-quality patient-focused care is delivered by actively participating in the day-to-day clinical and operational management of the department.

To work with the A & E team on professional nursing issues and management of clinical governance. Act as a Team Leader for junior members of staff.

We’re an organisation that is getting better and better and our improvements are driven by a determination to deliver care we’re proud of and our patients are happy with. We’re no longer in special measures; we’ve opened two new theatres at our Elective Surgical Hub in King George Hospital (KGH); and Matthew Trainer, our Chief Executive, has been named the top CEO by the Health Service Journal.

We operate from two main sites – KGH in Goodmayes and Queen’s Hospital in Romford. We have two busy emergency departments with more than 330,000 people visiting them last year. We’re campaigning to secure the £35m we need to transform the A&E at Queen’s and get rid of corridor care.

Our patients are benefitting from our Women’s Health Hub in Ilford; an Ageing Well Centre in Hornchurch; and Community Diagnostic Centres (CDC) at Barking Community Hospital and at St George’s Health and Wellbeing Hub in Hornchurch.

These CDCs are open 12 hours a day, 7 days a week and are providing an extra 88,000 scans a year.

The majority of our 8,000 staff – who come from 146 different countries - live in the three diverse London boroughs we serve and are from black, Asian and minority ethnic groups. Many can work flexibly and more than 400 of them are on our Ofsted accredited apprenticeship programmes. We’re proud to be a London Living Wage employer.

We’re looking forward to introducing an electronic patient record that will be transformative for our staff and beneficial for our patients.
