Description
An opportunity has arisen for a Band 8a Clinical Neuropsychologist to join our expanding Neuropsychology Department within a well-regarded regional Neurosciences service. This post offers a varied caseload across inpatient and outpatient settings, providing neuropsychological assessment and brief intervention for adults with neurological and neurosurgical conditions. The role also includes specialist input into acute stroke wards and rehabilitation pathways across two hospital sites.

You will join a supportive team of Clinical Neuropsychologists and work closely with neurology, neurosurgery, stroke medicine, and allied health colleagues as part of a multidisciplinary service. The department is committed to high-quality, evidence-based care and offers supervision, CPD, and opportunities for teaching and training.

We welcome applications from those meeting Band 8a criteria and from suitably qualified Band 7 applicants under a preceptorship arrangement, subject to usual progression processes.

You must have experience administering and interpreting neuropsychological assessments. Experience in diagnostic neuropsychology and/or neurorehabilitation is desirable. Candidates should hold doctoral-level Clinical Psychology training (or equivalent pre-1996) accredited by the BPS, with strong neuropsychological theory and practice. This post suits those pursuing or undertaking the Qualification in Clinical Neuropsychology (QiCN).

To work as a highly specialist Clinical Psychologist providing high-quality neuropsychological assessment and, where appropriate, intervention to patients with neurological conditions and their families across outpatient and inpatient settings.

To provide advice, consultation, supervision, teaching and training to other professionals and non-professional carers as appropriate.

To work autonomously within professional guidelines and the overall framework, policies and procedures of the Neuropsychology Department and the Essex Neurosciences Service.

To actively support and collaborate with the Consultant Clinical Neuropsychologist/s in development of the service, and to utilise research skills for audit, policy development and research within the area served by the team.

We’re an organisation that is getting better and better and our improvements are driven by a determination to deliver care we’re proud of and our patients are happy with. We’re no longer in special measures; we’ve opened two new theatres at our Elective Surgical Hub in King George Hospital (KGH); and Matthew Trainer, our Chief Executive, was named the top CEO by the Health Service Journal in 2024.

We operate from two main sites – KGH in Goodmayes and Queen’s Hospital in Romford. We have two busy emergency departments with more than 330,000 people visiting them last year. We’re campaigning to secure the £35m we need to transform the A&E at Queen’s and get rid of corridor care.

Our patients are benefitting from our Women’s Health Hub in Ilford; an Ageing Well Centre in Hornchurch; and Community Diagnostic Centres (CDC) at Barking Community Hospital and at St George’s Health and Wellbeing Hub in Hornchurch.

These CDCs are open 12 hours a day, 7 days a week and are providing an extra 94,000 scans a year.

The majority of our 8,000 staff – who come from 146 different countries - live in the three diverse London boroughs we serve and are from black, Asian and minority ethnic groups. Many can work flexibly and more than 400 of them are on our Ofsted accredited apprenticeship programmes. We’re proud to be a London Living Wage employer.

We’re looking forward to introducing an electronic patient record that will be transformative for our staff and beneficial for our patients.
