BI Engineer - Contract
Role Description:

The Data & Analytics team within this Commercial Banking area is seeking a Business Intelligence Expert to help with the design, development, and optimization of data visualization and analytics solutions using Google Cloud’s Looker Core. we are looking for a highly adaptable and resourceful professional who can pivot, learn, and master new tools and techniques while contributing to broader BI and data analytics initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:
• Develop & Optimize BI Solutions – Build interactive dashboards, reports, and data models in Looker Core to drive business insights.
• Work with Stakeholders – Collaborate with commercial banking teams, analysts, and data engineers to understand business needs and translate them into effective BI solutions.
• Adapt & Learn – Stay ahead of GCP tools and services , cloud developments and best practices, continuously upskilling as required.
• Data Modelling & Query Optimization – Design scalable data structures and optimize performance within Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and BigQuery.
• Documentation & Knowledge Sharing – Develop best practices, training materials, and internal guides to drive adoption of Looker Core across HSBC UK Commercial Banking.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
• Business Intelligence & Data Visualization Experience – Proven experience with BI tools such as Looker core , looker studio , Tableau, Power BI, or similar.
• Strong SQL Skills – Ability to write efficient queries for data exploration, transformation, and visualization.
• Google Cloud Expertise – Familiarity with BigQuery, Dataform, and GCP analytics services, looks and data integration / transformation strategies.
• Data Modelling Expertise – Understanding of LookML or similar semantic modeling frameworks.
• Financial Services Knowledge (Plus) – Understanding of commercial banking data, financial products, and risk analytics is a bonus.
Nice to Have:
• Hands-on experience with Looker Core.
• Exposure to Python or JavaScript for BI automation and integration.
• Experience in cloud-based GCP data warehousing and analytics.
