Our client, a leading company in the technology sector, is currently seeking a Development Engineer to join their team in Whiteley, Hampshire. This role focuses on the design and development of fluid handling systems, software subsystems, and other aspects of a novel medical diagnostic product that ensures patients receive the right antibiotic much sooner than currently available.
Key Responsibilities:
- Development of subsystems for laboratory equipment, focusing on control algorithms and software, fluid handling, and electromechanical parts
- Designing fluid handling systems, sourcing parts, assembling rigs and subsystems, and conducting performance tests
- Writing code and algorithms in compliance with good software practices—knowledge of relevant standards and medical device regulations (e.g., ISO 13485, ISO 9001, ISO 14971, IEC 62304) is beneficial
- Developing test plans and procedures, and accurately documenting tests at unit, sub-system, and system level
- Collaborating closely with internal and external stakeholders, including production, service, sales teams, and suppliers
Job Requirements:
- Experience in designing electro-mechanical systems or medical devices
- Proficiency in writing software for controlling electromechanical equipment, preferably including MATLAB, Python, and/or PLC code
- Exposure to designing (micro)fluidic handling systems, special purpose machinery, or similar equipment is beneficial
- Strong engineering background with a degree in Biomedical, Electronic, Mechatronic, or a related engineering discipline
- Ability to work under minimal supervision, with a flexible attitude and problem-solving skills to adhere to project timelines
