About The Team
This is an opportunity to become a member of the inaugural brewing team for Guinness Open Gate Brewery, London (GOGBL). GOGBL is located on a historic site in Covent Garden. The site features a 15 HL brewery and brand immersion experience, a covered courtyard beer garden, retail stores, event spaces, and two restaurants. We will constantly develop new and unique beers to fill our multiple rotating tap lines, and create a unique brewery consumer experience that only Guinness could do. The brewery team will consist of a QA manager, two Senior Brewers and three Brewers all reporting into the Head of Site Operations.
Purpose Of Role
Brewers are responsible for brewing, cellaring and packaging operations in our experimental brewery. They work closely with Quality, Facilities, Logistics and Retail/Restaurant Operations. The brewers are also contributors to innovation and recipe development. We are looking for motivated, passionate, self-starting brewers to brew outstanding beers across a range of styles. The brewing team will be visible faces at GOGBL creating an inclusive and vibrant experience for the team and customers alike.
Primary Focus Areas
- Safety across the brewery
- Hands on operation of 15 HL brewing, cellar, CIP, and packaging systems
- Rigorous adherence to quality and GMP standards
- In process quality analysis and interpretation of results
- Participation in sensory panel and follow-up
- Raw material inventory, receiving and usage and batch record keeping
- Diagnose and troubleshoot problems
- Draft and update SOPs and risk assessments
- Participate in innovation ideation and recipe development
- Participate in 5S, focused improvement projects and Root Cause Problem Solving
Qualifications And Experience
- Preferred 3+ years commercial brewing experience in brewhouse and cellar
- Brewing education preferred
- Recipe formulation and understanding of raw materials required
- Demonstrated experience in diagnosing and trouble shooting problems
- In-depth knowledge of beer defects, their identification, and sources and causes required
- Experience and comfort with Microsoft Suite including Excel and PowerPoint required
Physical Demands And Work Environment
Brewers will be on their feet in the brewery for long periods of time. They will be required to stand, walk and climb as well as crouch and kneel. They will be required to operate valves, move hoses and handle boxes and bags. The employee must be able to lift and/or move 25kg.
The brewers will be working in the brewhouse, cellar, and packaging areas which will be hotter or colder than typical office environments. They may also be near noise, pressurized systems, hot liquids, airborne particles, chemicals and moving machinery.
Weekend and holiday work as required. Start times may vary.
