About The Role
We are seeking a proactive and knowledgeable
Building Regulations Manager to support our Bristol and Cardiff studios. This pivotal role bridges policy, practice, and peopleensuring our teams are empowered to meet the evolving demands of building safety and regulatory compliance.
The role will operate across
three strategic pillars Central, Studio, and Local Teams. While the responsibilities are defined, the way you deliver them should reflect your strengths, personality, and leadership style to achieve shared objectives agreed with studio leadership
INITIAL OBJECTIVES
As part of your onboarding and development, the following early priorities have been identified:
- Strengthen awareness and understanding of building regulations compliance across the studio.
- Develop studio-specific tools, guidance, and initiatives that support project compliance.
- Fulfil the duties of Building Regulations Principal Designer (BR-PD) and BR-PD Advisor on Bristol/Cardiff projects, working alongside technical teams.
- Act as the key communication link between the local studio and BDPs wider Building Safety Group , staying aligned with national initiatives and evolving policy.
THREE PILLARS OF THE ROLE
- Central Support BDP Building Safety Group
Youll be integrated into BDPs wider
Building Safety Group (BSG) - a centralised team that:
- Supports technical staff across studios in meeting compliance obligations.
- Manages BDPs response to the Building Safety Act 2022 and changes to The Building Regulations 2010.
- Oversees the implementation of BR-PD roles across all applicable projects.
- Key Central Figures:
- Chief Executive sets policy and governance structures.
- Building Safety Group Board Director reports to the Board and oversees compliance performance.
- Building Safety Group Lead delivers policy implementation and supports Studios in fulfilling their duties.
- Studio Responsibilities
WITHIN THE BRISTOL AND CARDIFF STUDIOS, YOUR ROLE INCLUDES:
- Supporting Studio Chairs and Project Directors to uphold compliance and establish project-specific processes.
- Acting as Building Regulations Manager , reporting to the BSG Lead, ensuring consistent application of BDP policies.
- Collaborating with Building Regulation Representatives to offer hands-on support, circulate best practice, and feedback improvement ideas to the central team.
- Assisting technical staff in understanding and fulfilling their responsibilities under the legislation, particularly regarding the BR-PD and Designer roles.
- Local Leadership Bristol / Cardiff
THIS ROLE IS KEY TO HOW THE STUDIO WILL:
- Integrate compliance into the heart of the design process.
- Mentor and upskill staff to reflect competency and readiness.
- Demonstrate excellence in regulatory compliance to our clients.
- Stay ahead of industry developments related to building safety, legislation, and competence .
WHAT WERE LOOKING FOR
- Strong working knowledge of UK Building Regulations and the Building Safety Act 2022.
- Experience in managing regulatory compliance in a design, engineering, or construction context.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to lead, mentor, and influence at all levels.
- Comfortable working across multiple teams and disciplines, translating central policy into local practice.
- BR-PD or similar compliance role experience preferred (or readiness to step into the role with support).
