LGC’s National Laboratories (NL) group is based at The Surrey Research Park, Guildford and delivers a range of functions and services in partnership with the UK Government, business and academia. The business unit has revenues in the region of £19m and employs ~150 people. The National Laboratories moved to new Guildford premises in June 2025.The Building Services Manager requires assistance to ensure smooth day to day running of the building during the initial set up phases to ensure labs return to business as usual in a timely manner.
Job Description
The Building Services Project Manager will be responsible for managing issues related to the setup of the new building specifically day two works projects and outstanding snagging, and will assist the Building Services Manager in day-to-day activities where necessary. Key responsibilities will be to manage items raised via the NL Help Building system, liaising with lab staff, the building maintenance team, site operations and external contractors.
Key Responsibilities
- Be a point of contact for building related issues.
- Effectively manage external contractors when undertaking maintenance work.
- Create permits to work required by the Landlord liaising with key site contacts including the landlord.
- Create permits to work required by the laboratory teams prior to commencement of any work.
- Review RAMS, schedule of works and other related paperwork from the contractor to ensure they are fit for purpose.
- Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations within all areas of responsibility.
- Ensure contractors deliver to the highest standards during maintenance work, including housekeeping and cleanliness.
- Effective management of associated paperwork (such as commissioning documentation) within SharePoint
- Provide internal site related communications / updates when required.
- Provide cover and support for the Building Services Manager when required.
Qualifications
Knowledge, Experience and Technical Skills
- Strong project management experience within building services.
- Previous operational and contract management experience focused on service delivery to time and budget.
- Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office 365 and SharePoint.
- Experience with Building Management Systems (BMS) desirable.
- Experience in laboratory operations desirable.
- Excellent organisational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Good knowledge of health and safety, environment and building regulations desirable.
