Description

Allen Lane are proud to be supporting the London Borough of Newham in their search to appoint a Business Analyst on a permanent basis. This is an exciting opportunity to join Newham’s newly formed Digital, Data and Technology (DDaT) service at a transformative time for the borough — helping to shape innovative, user-centred digital services that improve the lives of residents and staff alike. If you’re a confident and collaborative analyst with a passion for public service and solving complex problems, we’d love to hear from you.

The role

As a Business Analyst, you will:

  • Lead on business analysis for some of the council’s most complex, high-risk digital products and services
  • Engage users and stakeholders to identify challenges, gather evidence, and shape digital solutions that drive transformation
  • Translate user needs into well-defined requirements, backlogs and user stories — supporting agile teams throughout delivery
  • Analyse service journeys, pain points and processes across departments, with a focus on continuous improvement
  • Use qualitative and quantitative data to support decision-making, monitor value, and track benefits
  • Champion user-centred design, agile delivery and service mapping across multiple product teams

Key skills required

As a Business Analyst, you will bring:

  • A proven track record of working in agile, multidisciplinary teams to design and deliver digital products
  • Strong experience with service and process mapping, backlog management and user journey design
  • A confident, structured approach to gathering and analysing evidence, and presenting insights clearly to stakeholders
  • Experience facilitating workshops, engaging users, and contributing to service design or user research
  • Familiarity with modern platforms and tooling, including:
  • Microsoft Power Platform (Power Apps, Power Automate, Power BI) — especially in supporting low-code solutions and workflow automation
  • Microsoft 365 tools such as SharePoint, Teams, Excel and Forms to support collaborative delivery
  • An understanding of cloud-based technologies, agile governance, and the wider DDaT profession
  • Experience in the public sector and/or delivering digital services in complex organisations would be an advantage.

What you get in return

A salary of £52,584 – £55,620 plus benefits including: Local government pension scheme, up to 31 days annual leave plus bank holidays, Flexible and hybrid working and much more!
