Reporting to The Programme Manager withing the Change and Delivery Team, this role will lead significant business change projects which drive improvements in Costain’s operating model.

The Business Change Project Manager takes responsibility for the end to end project lifecycle, for initiatives which enable Costain’s strategic priorities. The role sets the environment, sets the project up for success and matrix manages an integrated delivery team to achieve business case outcomes for Costain’s key business change projects. It supports Sponsors achieve Costain’s ambition through leadership of resources, budget and delivery plans, reflect Costain’s values and behaviours in how change is delivered.

The role will balance the use of project management practice and the ability to be nimble to deliver business change. The Project Manager is the custodian of the business case, delivery plan and key deliverables, as well as the conduit into the Sponsor for change. The role will chair Working Groups and Steering Groups, building relationships with stakeholders at all levels across the business.

Strong candidates will demonstrate an ability to bring delivery teams on a journey for how change is designed, implemented and sustained.

Responsibilities

We have an exceptional opportunity of a12-month fixed term contract for a Business Change Project Manager to join Costain.

The Strategy and Transformation Team are responsible for the shaping and planning of Costain’s strategic priorities and then delivering sustainable change. The Change & Delivery Team lead the design, delivery and embedding of all change across Costain.

  • Set an environment which brings together cross-functional teams, Transformation professionals and third parties to deliver Costain’s business change priorities
  • Deliver business case outcomes and benefits committed through bringing people, process and technology together and drive ownership of the business case with the Sponsor.
  • Bring curiosity and collaboration across the integrated delivery team to ‘make change happen’ and deeply understand the critical path and dependencies within the plan
  • Lead the delivery team through the end to end project management lifecycle, from initiation through to embedded change. Adhere to governance and challenge how agility can be increased to deliver
  • Evaluate and mitigate project risks, providing confidence for governance forums and stakeholders on the risk management position.
  • Lead project working groups and given confidence to Steering Committees both directly and through the delivery team
  • Provide objective thinking on operating model, being a critical friend to Sponsors, business leaders and subject matter experts to maintain integrity in the design
  • Maintain the project resource schedule, actively reduce bottlenecks and manage conflicting priorities across technical, functional, Transformation and third parties
  • Role model Costain’s values and behaviours in how change is delivered

Knowledge, Skills, And Experience

  • Essential
  • Demonstrate experience leading complex business change with cross-functional impacts
  • Bias towards curiosity and immersion with hands on driving of business change
  • Strong facilitation skills with senior stakeholders
  • Experience of matrix managing project delivery teams, comprising of Transformation professionals, business resource and third parties
  • Ability to bring integrated project team on the journey of how projects are delivered
  • Evidence of selecting project methodologies (i.e. Waterfall, Agile, etc) to suit the situation
  • Target operating model facilitation and critical thinking
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement skills, both written and verbal
  • Foundational knowledge of change management and process optimisation and ability to integrate these skills into project delivery
  • Desirable

  • Experience working with a management office to improve project delivery framework
