Root-Power was launched in July 2024 as part of YLEM Group, a leading independent power generation specialist. To date, Root-Power has developed an enviable development pipeline of over 1GW ready to build Energy Storage projects, with our flagship project due to energize in the Summer of 2025. Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) are key to achieving a flexible, net-zero energy future. BESS unlocks the full potential of renewable sources by storing energy when production is high and redistributing it during peak demand or low renewable output. This ensures a stable, efficient, and clean electricity supply, leveraging green technology to its fullest.

As we enter the next phase of our growth, Root-Powers Development team are now heavily focused on delivering these projects and mirroring this unprecedented growth over the next few years in the emerging sectors. We are now recruiting a Business Development Associate to support the development of our energy and infrastructure business, taking innovation concepts through to business roll-out.

Role and Responsibilities: Root-Power is looking to recruit a bright and enthusiastic Business Development Associate, with a desire to work in the Renewable Independent Power Producer (IPP) environment. The Business Development Associate will play a key role in driving growth and innovation across our energy and infrastructure portfolio. Working within the Development team, you will research and evaluate new market opportunities, identify emerging trends, build partner relations, and support the development of strategic initiatives that advance our position in the renewable energy and infrastructure sectors.

Reporting to the Head of Development, as a Business Development Associate, you will be at the heart of Root-Powers expansion shaping new initiatives and ensuring we stay ahead in a fast-evolving market, responsible for driving the identification, assessment, and progression of new renewable energy and infrastructure projects.

Primary Responsibilities Will Include

  • Identification, assessment and prioritization of emerging market opportunities in the renewable energy and infrastructure sectors.
    • Monitor and analyze industry trends, policy developments, and competitive activity to inform strategic business growth.
    • Maintain a structured market intelligence database to track emerging opportunities.
  • Prepare feasibility studies and present the business case for new projects and partnerships.
    • Prepare business cases and present findings and recommendations to the wider team.
  • Run Root-Powers internal Innovation, Excellence and Community program, fostering continuous improvement, community engagement and technological innovation.
    • Host monthly meetings and working groups.
    • Collaborate with internal teams to ensure Root-Power's Innovation, Excellence and Community targets are being worked towards.
  • Lead in building relationships with key industry partners, advisors, and potential suppliers.
    • Supporting outreach activities, including initial engagement and follow-up communications.
    • Coordinating and attending meetings, industry events, and networking opportunities.
    • Maintaining an up-to-date contact database and relationship management records.
    • Assisting in the evaluation of potential suppliers and partners to ensure alignment with project and business objectives.
Experience Requirements: The ideal candidate will be motivated and self-driven, with an ambition to work within the renewables sector, in particular in the development of energy projects in the UK. They must be well rounded, with the ability to work individually on tasks and as part of a team. Ideally, they would have some prior knowledge or related experience in the energy sector, and they must be eager to learn the process, risks and challenges which exist in constructing new energy projects. In addition, excellent networking, relationship building, verbal and written communication skills are required. Any successful candidate will need to feel comfortable creating and building meaningful relationships with external parties and be capable of understanding new technologies and keeping abreast of industry and market changes. Preferred Skills

  • Ambition to work within the business development arm of the Renewables industry.
  • Excellent communication and personal skills.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft office and the ability to adapt to new systems and processes.
  • Ability to work using your own initiative and to prioritize effectively to support the business in achieving its objectives.
  • Energy sector awareness.

Experience in business development preferred.
