Position
As Business Development Manager, you will play a critical role in driving the growth of CSA Catapult’s collaborative research and development (CR&D) portfolio by building strategic partnerships with industry and academia to deliver high impact, funded research projects in defined technology and sector areas.
You will develop and convert a pipeline of opportunities by crafting compelling value propositions, forming strong consortia, and aligning projects to CSA’s capabilities and national priorities. Acting as a trusted advisor to customers and an advocate for CSA’s expertise, you will secure CR&D revenue while also supporting the growth of our commercial business through crossover opportunities.
You will:
- Develop and manage a portfolio of collaborative R&D opportunities that align with the catapult’s strategic objectives
- Build relationships with stakeholders across industry, academia, and the funding bodies
- Translate customer needs into impactful technical project proposals, leveraging Catapult expertise in RF and telecoms
- Drive the competitive bid process into funding mechanisms as run by Innovate UK, UKRI, DSIT, and other regional/national/International innovation funds
- Work with CSA Catapult engineering teams to understand capability and define our value proposition within collaborative projects, helping to drive internal technical roadmaps
- Represent the business at relevant events, forums, and conferences to raise visibility and build partnerships across the UK and internationally
- Work cross-functionally with technical, project delivery, and communications teams to ensure seamless handover and execution of business opportunities
- Prime accountability for delivering individual, RF, and CR&D revenue targets whilst driving regional growth across all technology areas, particularly within the Northeast of the UK
Requirements
- Ideally Degree / PHD Qualified in relevant STEM subject or be able to demonstrate a significant amount of directly relevant experience and success in a similar role, within the same (or similar) industry
- Knowledge of the RF sector and technology with a proven industrial track record
- Strong relationships with companies across the RF supply chain
- Experience of working in the collaborative bid process and of consortium forming
- Proven track record of building relationship externally with partners and suppliers
- Proven track record in converting interest into action, commitment and revenue
- This is a field-based role with UK wide travel expected (approx. 2-3 days, according to the needs of the business). The successful candidate will need to be based in close proximity to or be able to travel to our Northeast regional partners whilst supporting RF partners in other UK locations. International travel will be occasional.
- Knowledge of UK defence industry is highly advantageous
