Job Introduction

We are recruiting for a temporary Business Improvement Specialist, the location can be flexible within one of our NGED’s geographical locations in the South West. You will need to travel across various sites which include Redruth, Bodmin, Plymouth, Devon, North Devon, Somerset, Mendip and Bristol. This is a temporary position for 12 months (subject to review).

You will be responsible for implementing end to end business improvement projects across all areas of the operations business within NGED, to help deliver against our business plan commitments to ensure affordability for our customers, whist also preparing for ED3.

Responsible for developing and piloting new ways of working by finding opportunities, agreeing field improvement options and effectively deploying the changes with colleagues who do the work day to day. This will involve creating new best practices for adoption across the operations teams, establishing new policy, process and ways of working, making sure they are fit for purpose, embedded, and sustained.

As part of our hybrid working approach this role offers a mix of office and home working. Hybrid working can only be considered once your initial training is complete and subject to business need.

Main Responsibilities

  • Lead on initiatives to deliver change delivery across business areas and to drive operational efficiency in field operations teams across all areas of the organisation.
  • Identify opportunities and ways to enable improvements, focusing on embedding change effectively and enabling it to be sustained.
  • Support the Senior Business Improvement Manager to build the implementation plans ensuring that there are clearly defined milestones linked to value delivery, business cases and clear business led ownership of initiatives.
  • Support Senior Business Improvement Managers and leaders across the business to train and coach in new policy, processes, techniques and skills, whilst also contributing to and being actively involved in change management.
  • Work with Senior Business Improvement Managers to assess the change impact across NGEDs transformation to identify key interventions required. Support the ongoing effectiveness of delivery, analysing results and running change readiness surveys across NGED
  • Contribute to building a positive culture where change is embraced, adopted, and sustained by acting as a continuous improvement and change advocate, providing support to build individual and organisation capability in project teams and with stakeholders.
  • Support the development of organisational best practice and knowledge sharing initiatives, systems workshops
  • Liaise with leader across the business to ensure effectiveness of KPIs against the business end to end processes.

Ideal Candidate

You Will Have Proven Experience In The Following Areas

  • Change delivery and change management, including facilitation
  • Project management techniques
  • An understanding and experience of Lean principles, process and continuous improvement methodologies
  • Providing training and coaching to others
  • Understanding customer issues and creating implementation plans to address them

Along with the above experience you will be able demonstrate you are able to explain and apply techniques for analysing and capturing data and data change requirements, including supporting others in data quality management activities. Be able to work independently, in teams and with multiple stakeholders.

You will have a broad understanding of the NGED business or the ability to grasp quickly along with being able to consistently live our Company Values – do the right thing, find a better way and make it happen.

National Grid Electricity Distribution is committed to safeguarding the interests of the Company, colleagues and customers. This role is subject to a satisfactory Barring Service, (DBS) check, depending on the role different levels of screening and vetting are required. Some roles require a triannual check.
