Brief Description
Join Network Rail as the key data expert supporting our corporate compliance teams. You’ll bring data to life by creating and managing dashboards, automating reports, and uncovering insights around business ethics, Freedom of Information, and data protection. About The Role (External)
About the team..
You’ll be the go-to data contact within the Ethics & Corporate Compliance team. You’ll sit within the Ethics team where your focus will be on reporting and analysing on the business’s ethical compliance. You’ll manage the data and analysis of our Speak Out (whistleblowing) cases, our conflicts of interest and gifts & hospitality declarations, and our mandatory training courses. Working within a team of 3, you’ll be the technical expert; maintaining and troubleshooting existing dashboards and reports as well as taking a proactive approach to considering new ways of reporting and analysing our datasets. You’ll not only be expected to manage the team’s reporting requirements but also the analysis of what the data tells us to support the team, and wider business, in making the right next steps in relation to policy and process improvements.
At times, you’ll also support the wider compliance team meet their reporting needs in relation to freedom of information, transparency, and data protection compliance.
What does the average day look like?
At Network Rail, no two days are exactly the same—but here's what you can typically expect:
You’ll start your day as the go-to data contact for three corporate compliance teams, helping to turn complex information into clear insights. Your time will be split between creating and maintaining dashboards in Power BI and Excel, automating data collection, and transforming raw data into reports that drive real decisions.
A big part of your day will be spent analysing data related to business ethics. You’ll share insights with managers and teams to help shape smarter strategies and more transparent operations in relation to whistleblowing concerns, conflicts of interest, gifts & hospitality, and compliance with mandatory training.
You’ll also contribute to producing management information packs and dashboards—making sure the right people have access to the right data at the right time. Your keen eye for detail will ensure our data is accurate, well-organised, and always up to date.
Supporting wider improvements is also part of your day. You’ll help assist with managing the Speak Out and FOI/EIR case management systems. From raising support tickets to processing invoices, you’ll play a key role in ensuring things run smoothly behind the scenes as well as considering system improvements to improve reporting opportunities
Your inbox may include requests from the Transparency Mailbox, where you’ll help provide timely and informative responses. You’ll also support in updating the company’s transparency datasets regularly.

Who are we looking for?
We're looking for someone who thrives on solving problems, turning data into insight, and is confident navigating software systems with ease. You’ll be our technical expert—the go-to person for all things Power BI, Microsoft Flow (Power Automate), Excel, and other reporting tools. Whether it's building dashboards from scratch, automating workflows, or troubleshooting a system glitch, you’re the one who can make it happen.
You’ll need to be proactive and ready to hit the ground running. This role offers a lot of autonomy, so we’re looking for someone who’s self-sufficient, takes initiative, and feels just as comfortable working independently as they do collaborating with a wider team.
You'll have a strong eye for detail, an analytical mindset, and the ability to communicate complex data clearly and confidently. If you enjoy owning your area of expertise and continuously improving systems, then we want to hear from you.
Essential Criteria
- Experience of extracting information and reporting from multiple sources, including databases.
- Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Excel and experience managing and reporting from data management systems including how to address data quality issues.
- Excellent knowledge of data manipulation and use of Power BI and Microsoft Power Automate to create and automate reporting
- Excellent communication and analytical skills, with proven ability to present information effectively according to delivery schedules.
- Experience of using and reporting from case management systems
Desirable
- Experience of handling confidential data
- A working knowledge of the FOI Act, Environmental Information Regulations (EIR) regime, data protection legislation, and business ethics legislation
- Experience of managing Outlook mailboxes and distribution lists
- Experience of using Nitro PDF Pro and editing PDF documents
- Knowledge of Case Management systems
- Knowledge of process improvement techniques
- Knowledge of Microsoft Power Apps
- Knowledge of Microsoft SharePoint Online
- Knowledge of CoPilot and AI tools
