About the company

Legal 500 was founded by John Pritchard in 1987 as the original clients’ guide to law firms, the first of its kind. It is now a data-driven, AI-optimised research platform which benchmarks, informs and connects providers and users of legal services in over 100 countries worldwide.

Our research and data are trusted and relied upon by corporate clients globally as an essential part of the process, both of instructing law firms with new mandates, and when reviewing existing mandates or panels.

We exist to empower both buyers and sellers in the international legal marketplace to make better decisions and have improved outcomes for their organisations. This is achieved by leveraging a trusted, comprehensive research process with a unique, vast, proprietary and constantly updated set of client-supplied data, unrivalled in the market.

On the supply side of the legal market, every year Legal 500’s team of over 150 researchers, technologists, data analysts, journalists and content specialists collate and review 60,000+ data-submissions from law firms and conduct interviews with thousands of leading law firm partners. On the demand side, Legal 500 analyses confidential data from 300,000+ commercial law firm clients to benchmark law firms and lawyers by practice area; industry; jurisdiction; as well as by proprietary client satisfaction metrics, NPS®, and other qualitative and quantitative criteria.

Legal 500 is the only source of this depth of global research and data on law firms, lawyers and their clients.

Role Overview

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented BI Analyst to join our expanding Data Team. You will be the bridge between our modern data platform and the business, producing impactful, insight-led reports and dashboards from our central Snowflake data warehouse. Your work will empower teams across Marketing, Sales, Research, and Product to make faster, smarter, data-driven decisions.

This is a hands-on, business-facing role for someone who enjoys transforming complex datasets into meaningful, actionable insights — and can help educate stakeholders on the art of the possible with BI.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Marketing, Sales, Research, and Product to gather requirements and translate them into clear, actionable reporting outputs.
  • Design, develop, and maintain engaging Power BI dashboards and visualisations (moving beyond static tables to more insightful, visual analysis).
  • Ensure all reporting is built from Snowflake as the single source of truth, avoiding data silos and shortcuts.
  • Write and optimise SQL queries to extract, transform, and analyse data from Snowflake.
  • Challenge stakeholder requests constructively, suggesting better ways to meet business objectives through data.
  • Promote and help establish BI best practices, documentation standards, and naming conventions.
  • Identify patterns, trends, and actionable insights to support strategic and operational decision-making.
  • Support ad hoc data requests and provide training or guidance to business users.
  • Contribute ideas for BI process improvement and data governance initiatives.

Our Ideal Candidate

Must-have technical expertise

  • Proven experience as a BI Analyst, Data Analyst, or similar role.
  • Strong proficiency in Power BI (DAX, Power Query/M, data modelling).
  • Solid SQL skills and experience with Snowflake or other modern cloud-based data warehouses.
  • Ability to translate business requirements into technical solutions.

Key attributes & behaviours

  • Curiosity & creativity – can spot opportunities for better visuals or analysis.
  • Proactive ownership – engages stakeholders, challenges unclear requirements, and proposes better alternatives.
  • Stakeholder management – comfortable working with non-technical audiences and explaining concepts clearly.
  • Collaboration – integrates well within a new, growing Data Team and shares knowledge freely.
  • Adaptability – thrives in a fast-changing environment with evolving tools and priorities.

Preferred

  • Experience in media, publishing, or legal sectors.
  • Knowledge of DAX, Power Query/M, and basic ETL processes.
  • Familiarity with data governance and compliance best practices.
