About the Role

An excellent opportunity has opened for a Business Intelligence Data Engineer to join us and be based out of our operation in the London Gateway.

Key Responsibilities
- Design, manage and optimise SQL-based databases to support business intelligence and analytics.
- Maintain robust data structures and schemas to ensure accurate and consistent tracking of terminal performance metrics.
- Build and support data pipelines that transform operational data into usable formats for reporting and analysis.
- Collaborate with data analysts, IT and operations teams to understand data needs and deliver reliable access to key datasets.
- Automate ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes to streamline reporting and reduce manual effort.
- Conduct regular database health checks, backups, indexing and performance tuning to ensure system reliability.
- Troubleshoot data issues, resolve reporting errors and perform root cause analysis in partnership with the BI team.
- Uphold best practices in data governance, security and access control across all reporting platforms.
- Maintain technical documentation and version control for database objects, stored procedures and ETL workflows.
- Support the integration of business data with global dashboards and forecasting tools to enable long-term planning.
Qualifications & Experience
- Hands-on experience with relational databases (e.g., SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL).
- Strong understanding of data warehousing, modelling, and database design principles.
- Proficient in writing SQL queries, stored procedures, views, and scripts.
- Experience building or maintaining ETL pipelines using tools like SSIS, Power Query, or similar.
- Excellent troubleshooting and diagnostic skills.
- High attention to detail and strong documentation habits.
- Familiarity with container terminal operations or logistics data. (Desirable)
- Experience with Power BI or similar data visualisation tools. (Desirable)
- Knowledge of data governance, GDPR, and data security practices. (Desirable)
- Exposure to cloud-based databases (e.g., Azure SQL, AWS RDS). (Desirable)
