Due to our global growth at Howden the compliance business support team is looking to bring on a Compliance Business Support Associate to support on UK and global work. Initially the opportunity is a 12 month fixed term contract so I’d like to see profiles who are immediately available or at the latest a 1 month notice period.

What is this role?

As a Compliance Business Support Associate you will work within the Compliance Function’s Business Support Team. The Compliance Business Support Team will act as the Compliance Function’s interface with business units of the Operating Entity. The team will also be responsible for the on-going development and maintenance of the Operating entity’s second line of defence systems, controls, policies and procedures in relation to Financial Crime, Sanctions and Data Protection, taking into account any changes in regulatory requirements or the Operating Entity’s business model or processes.

What will you be doing?

The job holder will contribute to and provide support to ensure the following queries are addressed and managed within their team:

• Review and approval of financial crime and sanctions matters escalated to second line of defence for review and approval
• Review and approval of payments that pose a higher financial crime risk
• Initial Appointed Representative and Introducer regulatory risk assessments and consideration of additional resources and controls required
• Initial review and regulatory risk assessment of new third party service provider arrangements.
• Review and approval of financial promotions and marketing material
• Provides on-going advice with regard to data protection related requirements relating to client communications and marketing
• Provides support to the business in implementing the principle of “data protection by design” and to review “Data Protection Impact Assessments”
• Shall contribute and provider support in relation to ensuring that the Operating Entities maintain adequate financial crime, sanctions and data protection related systems and controls, including in relation to fraud, anti-money laundering, data protection, market abuse, criminal finances act, bribery and corruption.
• Contributes towards the development and implementation of second line of defence monitoring metrics which support the early identification of any emerging trends which may signal potential issues associated with financial crime, sanctions and data protection.
• Contributes and supports the Business Support Team’s ability to develop and maintain a process to measure and monitor the financial crime, data protection and sanctions risk profile of each Business Unit and Division (including their Appointed Representatives), to ensure the appropriate assignment of support and resources.
• Provides support to the business units in providing technical input and expertise, interpreting compliance regulations/requirements and relating this to business activities, in relation to Financial Crime, Data Protection and Sanctions.
• Supports in the identification of regulatory developments & changes in relation to Financial Crime, Sanctions and Data Protection and assists with impact and gap analysis, providing advice and recommendations to improve performance and mitigate risks.
• Supports the provision of regular updates on Compliance Business Support, Financial Crime, Sanctions and Data Security matters to relevant stakeholders, including arising issues and/or incidents occurring in the business, along with findings, recommendations and management-actions arising out of compliance reviews.
• Consider and respond to any Financial Crime, Sanctions or Data Protection concerns, issues or breaches identified by either the first line monitoring functions or the Compliance Monitoring Team.
• Provides technical expertise to specific projects and initiatives in order to ensure goals and objectives are met.

What are we looking for?

• This is an entry level role and required training will be provided. The individual, however, is expected to demonstrate a strong interest in financial services/insurance.
• Will ideally have some experience and knowledge of regulatory expectations.
• Will ideally have some experience of what effective conduct risk controls may entail.
• Will ideally have some experience and knowledge of working within a financial services firm, ideally within the insurance industry.
• Will ideally have some knowledge and experience of the role of a Compliance Function within a financial services firm.
• Will ideally have some prior experience of using and navigating the FCA handbook, as well as other expectations set out by the regulator in other publications.
