Brief Description
Job introduction (int/ext)
You'll be joining the Route Services finance team, which is part of the corporate structure known as Finance and Business Support, within the Route Services directorate. Your role involves supporting the function to deliver services that are vital to the running of the railway, delivering the provision of services agreed by the routes to allow them to benefit from economies of scale and the optimisation of our critical resources.

What we’re looking for:
- Cloud Expertise: Familiarity with Microsoft Azure, including cloud services and deployment environments.
- Data Design Skills: Experience in designing and developing data models to support scalable and efficient systems.
- Technical Qualifications: Relevant ICT certifications or qualifications that demonstrate your technical competency.
- Hands-On Experience: Previous experience in systems support or development, ideally within a structured IT or business environment.

Main responsibilities:
- To provide technical and administrative duties to the Systems Development team in all system and report development and work alongside our customers on developing reporting requirements.
- Investigate, progress and where necessary triage requests and issues coming into the Development Team to support both the Systems Developers and the Support Team in servicing our customers’ needs.
- Develop and implement new and existing reports to help our customers obtain required information from systems and platforms owned by Route Services Finance and Business Support.
- Implement system configuration tasks in-line with development plans in order to deliver low code solutions and enhancements to our customers.
- Represent Business Systems by working with customers to gather and document reporting requirements in order to deliver reporting solutions to the business.
- Perform test activities for new and existing systems, identify and escalate any potential defects to developers, to guarantee defects are identified prior to user acceptance testing.
- Perform quality assurance activities for new and existing systems, identify and escalate any functionality constraints to Project Leads & Developers to identify any requirement gaps prior to user acceptance testing.
- Record and document fixes and workarounds to systems to keep user guides and support documentation up to date and correct.
- Distribute, gather, and check project documentation and logs to support team project assurance activities.

Essential
- An aptitude and interest in Systems Development, particularly database & reporting systems
- Analytical skills with previous experience utilising SQL queries
- Customer focussed approach with the ability to communicate with stakeholders at all levels
- Proactive in taking on new skills and concepts
- Good organisation and analytical skills, with proven ability to present information effectively and appropriately
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office
- Ability to work under pressure and a desire to improve processes and produce efficiencies
Desirable
- ICT qualification(s)
- Previous experience working within Systems Support / Development
