Main Duties And Responsibilities
Legal status
- Deliver Business modules to international pre-university students from a range of linguistic, educational and cultural backgrounds
- Remain sensitive to the expectations of different nationalities whilst encouraging an open and questioning approach to learning that leads students to become independent learners
- Provide academic support for students, as appropriate, through consultations and tutorials, demonstrating a willingness to offer extra advice outside normal class hours
- Develop and maintain an encouraging classroom environment in which accepted rules of behaviour are consistently applied
- Select, prepare and use teaching and learning materials appropriate for international students and contribute relevant materials to the tutors’ shared resource drive
- Assess students throughout their Business modules and regularly creating, providing and marking both formative and summative evaluations
- Provide detailed oral and written feedback to students and other stakeholders, for example, the Student Services Manager and College Director, as required
- Carry out administrative and record-keeping tasks associated with teaching and assessment (e.g. accurate attendance records, student progress reports, schemes of work, test invigilation)
- Lead to the development of schemes of work and assessment materials
- Populate the VLE (Blackboard) with relevant materials for students to access
- Attend and contribute to college meetings and training sessions as required
- Act as a positive ambassador for Oxford International pathway programmes
Legal status
- Appropriate DBS disclosure
- Eligibility to work in and travel freely in the UK.
- A relevant Master’s degree and/or experience in a relevant subject area.
- Significant relevant teaching & assessing experience, preferably within a UK further or higher education context
- Recent experience of teaching international students.
- Proven to be adept at the use of the latest technological teaching aids
- Some experience of/interest in curriculum development and/or student assessment
- Ability to use different strategies for effective classroom management and commitment to student-centred learning
- Ability to develop and adapt materials to suit students’ needs
- Willingness and ability to use a variety of teaching strategies and methods
- Commitment to the welfare of students
- Commitment to fostering a supportive and encouraging learning environment in which the teacher manages cultural differences
- Willingness and ability to effectively teach learners of different ages
- Ability to differentiate in class according to age, ability, learning preference
- Willingness and ability to teach effectively online and face to face
- Willingness and flexibility to teach mornings and afternoons
- Adopts a highly professional approach to work
- Adopts a collaborative approach to working
- Is resilient, flexible and responds positively to new challenges and actively seeks solutions
- Empathy with international students and an understanding of their needs
- Flexibility and adaptability
- Excellent communication skills, oral & written
