Job Overview
Following a review of our pharmacy service for cancer patients we have an exciting opportunity for a dynamic, forward thinking pharmacy technician to join our cancer services team. We are a busy and friendly team of pharmacy staff who are fully integrated into the oncology and haematology multidisciplinary team. You will support patients to take their medication safely and effectively during their cancer treatment. You will be fully supported by a team of experienced cancer services pharmacists.
What are we looking for?
- A qualified accredited checking and medicines optimisation technician who wants to make a difference to patient care.
- An individual with a keen interest in oncology and haematology.
- An excellent team worker with experience of multidisciplinary working.
- An effective communicator, particularly with patients and carers but also with all members of the oncology and haematology team.

- You will work as part of a very supportive and friendly team, both within the pharmacy and the wider oncology and haematology service.
- You will have opportunities for training and development and will also have opportunities to deliver training to other members of the team.
- The Dyson Cancer centre opened in April 2024. We have an oncology/haematology pharmacy hub within the centre, providing a supportive environment for patients and their families.

Person specification
Qualifications & Training
Essential criteria
- Registered pharmacy technician with GPhC
- Accredited Checking Pharmacy Technician qualification (ACPT)
- Accredited Medicines Optimisation Technician qualification.
Desirable criteria
- Experience of line management of pharmacy assistants
Knowledge & Experience
Essential criteria
- Recent experience working in hospital pharmacy
- Clinical ward based pharmacy and medicines management experience
Desirable criteria
- Previous oncology &/or haematology pharmacy experience
- Supervisory experience
- Experience of outpatient counselling
Applicant requirements
You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
The postholder will have access to vulnerable people in the course of their normal duties and as such this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.
