University Hospital of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust are looking for two dynamic and enthusiastic Clinical Fellows in Teaching and Cardiology to join our Trust.
The posts could be at either of ours sites (Royal Derby Hospital or Queens Hospital Burton). At Derby, the post will include a teaching commitment for our Nottingham University Medical students and those on the Graduate entry programme.
The posts are available from August 2025 for a period of 12 months initially, based within our Cardiology departments. Although these posts are not recognised for training, they provide excellent
experience in a Speciality Training level post at a busy friendly Foundation Trust
These posts would suit someone interested in pursuing training in Cardiology at registrar level, or
with an interest in acute medicine or teaching.
Although not formal training posts and these are not accredited by Health Education England, we
believe we can offer you good opportunities in a busy, large teaching hospital.
The Royal Derby Hospital site is a busy primary PCI centre with 2 cardiac catheter labs performing over 1000 PCIs per year. There is also an accredited echocardiography department, cardiac CT, MRI
and pacing, including complex devices.
Queen's Hospital Burton offers consultant-led inpatient Cardiology care and outpatient clinics. There is a cardiology diagnostic department performing echocardiograms, pacing checks, tilt table testing
as well as exercise stress testing. Cardiac catheter opportunities can be arranged at Derby.
You will receive supervision, access to an Eportfolio and be encouraged to join the established regional registrar teaching programmes. You will have a study leave budget and subject to individual
requirements, there may be scope to facilitate attendance at Advanced Life Support (ALS) or IMPACT courses and we will perform your annual appraisal.
At the Royal Derby Hospital, the successful applicant will join a middle grade team of 4 Cardiology
StRs and 3 Cardiology Fellows, providing Cardiology ward cover 1 week in 7.
At Queen's Hospital Burton you will be based on the CCU and Cardiology ward. At both sites, you will participate in the middle grade on call general medical rota. Both sites will participate in a twilight Cardiology rota at Derby. Opportunities to attend training in echocardiography and cath lab are available, along with supervised clinic experience and teaching.
