Job Overview
The Cardiology Nurse Specialist role will work as a skilled, autonomous practitioner as part of the multidisciplinary team to deliver high quality specialist care for patients diagnosed with acute cardiology presentations throughout their care pathway.
- Responsible for the day to day running of Nurse led Cardiology Clinics.
- Be responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of care for cardiology patients within the Emergency Zone without supervision on a daily basis and to facilitate ‘virtual cardiology round’ in conjunction with a Consultant Cardiologist
- Provide specialist advice to the multi-disciplinary team, facilitating early transfer to the Cath Lab/CCU
- To co-ordinate the safe transfer of patients through the inpatient system to allow for sufficient capacity and placement of emergency admissions to CCU/Cardiology wards and/or complex care area.
- To ensure that the highest standards of evidence-based patient centered care.
- Work in partnership with the multi-disciplinary team.
- Participate in the education programme within the emergency zone and cardiology departments
- To participate in the monitoring, evaluation and auditing of services and to present these findings as part of the Clinical Governance framework
Main duties of the job
- To provide specialist nursing advice and support to patients, their families and carers from the time of diagnosis and throughout treatment and follow-up phases of treatment and care.
- Facilitate early provision of specialist cardiology expertise to in-patients admitted within the medical division to ensure equitable care irrespective of geographical location.
- Work with Specialist Cardiology Consultants to develop and implement evidence-based care pathways to guide diagnosis and management of cardiac conditions according to local and national guidelines, irrespective of geographical area.
- Support the development of nursing services for people with Cardiac conditions, working across organisational boundaries, ensuring opportunities for early supportive discharge to specialist community teams are maximised.
- Be accountable for an individual and shared caseload of patients referred to the Cardiology Service in NBT

Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities
- Demonstrate specialist cardiology knowledge and skills relating to Cardiac patients across a range of procedures and practices.
- Act as a clinical resource in the management of people with Cardiology conditions for all healthcare professionals within NBT, Primary Care Trusts and the Cardiac Network.
- Manage an outpatient caseload, receiving referrals for patients with newly diagnosed cardiac conditions from both primary and secondary care and those with an established confirmed diagnosis.
- Prioritise caseload according to clinical stability of patients, taking considering the unpredictable nature of a caseload.
- Maintain standards and practice in accordance with the NMC Code of Professional Conduct, national guidelines, and local Trust policies/guidelines.

- Post Registration Cardiology experience
- Evidence of ongoing professional development
- At least 3 years post grad experience with 2 years experience in acute cardiology
- Experience of managing patients with Cardiology conditions

- Physical assessment and clinical reasoning module or eqivalent
- Audit and Research experience
